Bajofondo is a Rioplatense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%ADo_de_la_Plata) music band consisting of eight musicians from Argentina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentina) and Uruguay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguay). The band, which refers to itself as a "collective of composers, singers and artists", was formerly called "Bajofondo Tango Club", but shortened the name to "Bajofondo" after they felt their style had broadened, as was announced on their live concert in Berlin in April 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_2008).
Often compared to Gotan Project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotan_Project), their earlier music had blended acoustic tango (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tango_music) and electronic music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_music), part of an evolving tango genre which is known as "Electrotango", which brought tango back into the mainstream. Besides the aforementioned mixture of tango and electronica, the band is innovative form of DNB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_and_bass), house music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music), chill out (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chill_out_music) and trip-hop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trip-hop). Their first record, Bajofondo Tango Club (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bajofondo_Tango_Club_%28album%29), was launched in 2002 with great success, with a second lone project from pianist/DJ/composer Luciano Supervielle (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Luciano_Supervielle &action=edit&redlink=1) greeted warmly by reviewers in late 2005. More recent music from their third album, Mar Dulce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar_Dulce_%28album%29), is a fusion of Latin Alternative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_Alternative) with contemporary music forms along the Río de la Plata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%ADo_de_la_Plata) at the border of Argentina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentina) and Uruguay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguay).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bajofondo#cite_note-0)

I've been dusting off my favorite records of the last ten years in preparation for writing a 100 Favorite Albums of the Decade list for my campus paper. Bajofondo's 2003 release Bajofondo Tango Club is in the Top Twenty-Five. It's a fantastic album that blends elements of Neotango with Electronic, World and House. Any fans on here?

My Spanish teacher last year loved them and went to their concert when they were in Chicago. Can't say that I've listened to much of their music, but I liked what I heard when my teacher played them in class.

I'd kill to see them perform live. Good stuff.

Avoided these guys at first because I was told they resembled a less interesting Gotan Project (who I already wasn't particularly enamored with). Listened to Club on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. In retrospect, many of that individual's descriptions/comparisons are off.

Bone thrown.

Appreciated, good sir. Now, more of you post.

I actually heard of them because a few of the rotating members worked with various contributors to the Buena Vista Social Club project (which I'm a huge fan of). I also kinda dig Gotan Project, so, you know...I don't know how to end this sentence.

Mmm Buena Vista Social Club.

And yes, more of you give this a shot.

I just picked up Manuel Guajiro Mirabal's Buena Vista Social Club Presents album and it's just awesome.

Is that the record that came out in 05? If so, I have that lying around somewhere.

Edit: 04 apparently.

January '05, I believe. Yeah, it's one of the better Presents records. I just picked it up a few months back and it's finally getting heavy rotation.
