a lot of my friends love kanye and I never really understood why. I ask, and they tell me the only reason I dislike him is because I don't like rap, which isn't true.
am i not listening to the right songs or what?
Late Registration is one of those albums that makes me feel nostalgia (even though it hasn't been that long), and a rap album has NEVER made me feel that. I love it.

It's funny, because lots of his beats just hate on white people and white people absolutely LOVE him. I think he is a pretty cool rapper, he does pretty cool wordplay and metaphors, but all of his songs just sound the same to me. OK, you can get the rights to use lots of old obscure soul songs and add them to some cool bass beats, I know this, try something different. People acted like his new album was the second coming, but I liked his first album WAY better. Anyways, dont sweat not liking Kanye, he is too full of himself for me to really like him. He acts way to holier than thou.
Wow, I didnt post this with the intention of talking shit about Kanye West, but it sure turned out that way. WOOPS.

Kanye is a good producer, thats about as much credit as i'd give him, i have both his albums Late Registration and College Drop Out. For some reason none of them appeal to me that much, that might just be because I'm not really into the new rap and hip-hop scene, i'm more into the old school stuff...
dre, snoop, tupac, kurupt etc.. pre 2000 stuff.

I love the college dropout and Late Reg. is a decent effort. He is very full of himself though. I think what made him good was the fact that he did everything himself, and for the fact that he doesn't rap about money cash and hoes all the time. When I heard the line "We're all self-conscious I'm just the first to admit it" I think thats what made the album for me. He doesn't try to be the epitome of gangster, he just tells it how he feels it. That's needed in rap music.
I do agree that there is far better stuff out there though.

I love KanYe Because The College Dropout was a brilliant, Honest album. It was an album that got me excited about Hip Hop again. (Two Words was Fire) I love KanYe's Cockiness and the fact that he made an album (Late Registration) that helped him live up to it. He brought Nas back to where he should be on We major. Roses is on of the more heartfelt hip hop songs I've heard in a while. I'm just a fan.
Plus he Produced BE and that album is a classic and showed everyone else Com Sense is the Priest

-Production. He's one of the best in the business, and he can go toe to toe with anyone.
-Wordplay. I love his wordplay, it makes up a bit for his lack of legit mic skills.
-Lyrical content. There's definitely deeper/more important emcees out there, but he's written some of my favorite verses lyrically ever. (See: his verse on "Never Let Me Down")
And the fire he had on The College Dropout was incredible. A lot of people play the "Tell me what people see in Kanye West" card, but I'd like for people to tell me what they don't see in him. He's not a rapper first, but the guy is good enough on the mic, and he's put out two stellar albums.

I also definitely appreciate his ability to admit faults. He knows he isn't a gangsta (talks about wearing a backpack and not wearing a jersey in a ton of his songs) but he also admits that sometimes everyone gets sucked into it ("always said if I rap I'd say something significant, now I'm rapping about money, hoes and rims again.")

People like him becuase he raps about things other than "Bling, bling, bitches and hoes. I shot 10 guys cos I'm gangsta, big pimpin! You know what I'm saying?". He also picks the right beats and tunes to go with his rhymes which not many mainstream rappers seem to have the ability to do.

I know my last post on this hated on Kanye. But I decided to give College Dropout another listen and I now know why people SHOULD listen to kanye.
The song "Never Let Me Down" feat. Jay-z and J.Ivy is an amazing song, from the poetry to the gospel choir to the beat, that song is one of his best. All I can say is WOW, listen to this song if you havent.

It's an incredible song, and it's not even the best track on that album.

Personally? I like that his albums actually have substance, they're funny, and they're clever. I'll take any KanYe track over the best song 99.9% of mainstream rap offers.
