About a year ago, there was a news topic regarding the perfect music for the autumn season. I really love the idea of albums belonging to specific seasons, as listening to each one creates a unique experience that usually leaves me shamelessly reminiscent of a different time. Fall particularly belonging to:

Thrice - Vheissu
Counting Crows - August & Everything After
Coheed - Second Stage
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
The Reign of Kindo - Rhythym, Chord and Melody
GAD - Volcano
Cursive - The Ugly Organ

What're your picks for fall/winter/etc.?

Fall and Winter belong to:

Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism
Copeland - Beneath Medicine Tree
Lydia - Illuminate
Owen - I Do Perceive
Pompeii - Nothing Happens For A Reason
This Day & Age - Always Leave The Ground

Relient K's Forget and Not Slow Down is going to be a great autumn album. Other albums for this season:

Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Brand New - TDAGARIM
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (also good for winter)
Beloved (US) - The Running EP
mewithoutYou - [A --> B] Life
Dustin Kensrue - Please Come Home

They were already mentioned but to me the best Winter albums are Lydia "Illuminate" and Brand New "TDAGARIM." So fitting the depth and despair an Ohio winter can bring at times.

No specific albums, but fall/winter though I feel the bands that do it best for me include circa survive, city and colour, brand new, interpol, saves the day, etc.

But that doesn't include tonight, in which Dead To Fall's The Phoenix Throne is sounding as good as ever.

Yeah, screw winter.

Seriously man. It can be so brutal up here, especially around January. I generally need music just to get through it.

Ha, that's too obvious. (Really, though, I don't know how much those EPs resemble their respective seasons.)

Jars of Clay is backed, but I only like their self-titled.

Huh, I've always though it fit at the opposite end of the year... Their first album seems like a fall album, the next one winter, then spring, and the newest one is pretty summery.

Don't worry about those people above. I like this thread. I also like a few of your autumn choices; particularly Vheissu and The Reign of Kindo. I have yet to get really into Illinois by Sufjan, but I love his Seven Swans full-length.

For Emma, Forever Ago is IMO the quintessential winter album. Just listening to it puts me in that destitute cabin with Vernon. It truly is beautiful.

Winter is far and away my favorite season, and along with Bon Iver nothing goes better than Counting Crows' Recovering the Satellites. Adam Duritz is a beautiful, fuzzy man.

Lydia - Illuminate is perfect. Illuminate's rating soars to 100% for a fall season.

Haha Jars of Clay makes A LOT of crappy CDs, like studio-stamped for Christian radio stuff, but I recently revisited that sophomore release and it's actually really really good. Not as good as the self-titled, obviously, considering that might be one of the best records to come out of the 90's.

I've heard good things about that one, so maybe I'll go back and give it a fair chance; I feel like the general reaction was poor, though.

"Flood" is my jam.

I started a similar thread a week or two ago, so it's nice to see some more recs.

Jimmy Eat World Futures, Manchester Orchestra I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child, and Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago were the three I used as an example of the winter season and it looks like some other people beat me to the punch in this thread.

Keep 'em coming.
