Tonight As Cities Burn came home to Lousiana, and like the rest of the UnderOath tour, it was sold out to packed crowd.
I first want to say the HOB in New Orleans was too small to hold this, not only were kids outside looking for tickets, but the crowd inside was so packed, i pretty much stood on the side, or (by a chance) got to sit up in the VIP section to see the show.
Spitfire opened the show at 6:30 on the dot, i just walked in and they were coming on stage. They played a mixed thirty minute set, while most of the songs were from their new cd Self-Help, they played a few older ones i'd never heard before, but they were definately as sick as i expected them to be.
As Cities Burn came on to a fired up home crowd. Starting with their single "Bloodsucker Pt2" they blazed through and amazing set and a roaring crowd. Just in the first song, Pascal jumped off stage into the crowd. Tj told everyone they were coming back to HOB on August 19th. When I talked to him later about it, he said the tour was going to consist of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Jonzetta, and they weren't sure who else yet. He also made the remark that this wasn't the first time they had played in New Orleans, and with UnderOath. They played three years ago at Dixie Tavern (old school DEP fans should know this place) with UnderOath when the Changing of Times came out. He joked there were only about 30 people there.
Poison the Well blew me away. I was told that they were boring live, but i think they tore it up, and tore the crowd a new one. They started with "Zombies are Good For Your Health" and rocked with three songs off Opposite of December and two more off You Come Before You and i beleived a new track that was really good. They only played Botchla off Tear From the Red, and i noticed at their merch table they were only selling YCBY and OOD.
UnderOath suprised me a lot tonight. They opened with "It's Dangerous Business..." and rocked out for about an hour. They didn't touch on anything before Safety. But expectedly they played the hits of their. Before they played "In Regards to Self", they made a joke about people already hearing the cd, and some of the crowd was screaming the words. Continuing with mostly the hits from Safety (thank god, they didn't play "Reinventing Your Exit"***Sorry I hate that song***) they ended the night with "A Boy Brushed..." and another new track off the upcoming record. Needless to say, they impressed me a lot more than I thought they would, and the new songs live are being pulled off well. For those of you who have heard the demos, Spencer's new vocal range is bleeding over into the new songs.
This is definately a show that a lot of people are going to enjoy IF you got tickets. Sorry, but the rest of the tour is sold out.
