iunno about you, but I feel like act III album really dropped off after Mustard Gas
it seems like the albums almost split in half of harder and softer songs

really? i've never heard anyone say that they "blew". what exactly was bad about their performance, if you don't mind elaborating? I've seen them 5 or 6 times and the only time that I thought was not as good as the rest was when they had some of the guys from As Tall as Lions filling in because half the band sort of quit right before they went on tour. It wasn't even bad it was just that their singing wasn't up to what I had grown to expect. Anyway, I'm seeing them at the end of the month with Thursday, I hope they're back on point by then.

Act II for sure, i feel like the story is at it's strongest in Act II, the instrumentation and the lyrics are brilliant and everything flows so well. One of my favourite ever albums.

I don't know. Overall they're really talented - not really my scene, but talented. What their live set was lacking in my opinion was purely cosmetic: chemistry on stage and his voice was pretty incomprehensible over the instruments. Kind of like what I would expect if I saw the Mars Volta or something, but without the superb musicianship.

that's kind of a bummer. i tend to think it was just an off night for them because typically their musicianship is dead on. oh well, you can't win 'em all, i guess.

Casey's voice was nearly shot from practicing "In Cauda Venenum" which is also the reason they played a really short set. Iunno about the set you saw but the one I saw didn't show case their talent a huge amount, it was more just showing off some of their new material.

OH word. And yeah, you pretty much summed up my experience. Coheed, obviously, was pretty incredible. For me I think they came out to No World For Tomorrow, and then transitioned right into In Keeping Secrets, and then Gravediggers and Gunslingers. Haha I was exhausted three songs in.
