Anybody seen previews for this yet? I read the book, which is amazing if you're a football fan, but I'm kind of worried about the movie...looks aimed at suburban moms, with Sandra Bullock playing the ultimate Hollywood-ized role model.

I've read complaints that this story plays up to the white man saving the black person racist archetype, but it's based on a true (and amazing/inspiring) story, so I'm not worried about that....I just feel as though they're going to embellish it too much. Thoughts? Anyone else read the book?

yeah, they are gonna cliche the hell out of this one...and from the arguments I've read, the book itself denied answering the true question that should have been asked...why were they doing it in the first place? The general theory is that if Oher were 5'7" 150lbs and couldn't play DB, he'd be out on the streets still.

The part where Bullock tells them "you threaten my son you threaten me" makes me cringe every time

I actually don't question the real-life Tuohy's motivation. I genuinely feel as though they had the right intentions...and it's not like they adopted him so they could get rich when he went to the NFL. They already had that whole money thing figured out. However, I'm not sure if anybody would have ever brought Michael Oher to their attention had it not been for his size, because they only heard of him because he started going to the private school their daughter did. So while I think they are a family that should be commended, it's probably true that had he been an un-athletic, 5'7'' kid, he would still be on the streets.

Yeah...even if their motivation was in part that he could be a stud athlete (and they were huge Ole Miss fans)...it still takes a hell of a lot to take in a kid like that, especially when he's 200lbs bigger than your other kids, and your in the south with a young daughter. Unfortunately, I can already see from the trailer what this movie is gonna be, in the vein of Dangerous Minds, etc

Didn't really think the book was all that great. Thought he painted Oher as being too God-like. Good read though. As for movie? Ehh, I'll watch it but it seems cheesy.

I love "Kill the Messenger" - hope that song makes it into the movie. I always think it's perfect whenever any Jack's Mannequin music is used in inspirational stories, considering Andrew McMahon's own story.

As for the movie, I actually read parts of the book (skipped over the historical football stuff) and really liked it. I hope they just stay to the facts. It's an amazing enough story as is.

Going back to Oher, now that Jared Gaither is hurt, he actually is protecting "The Blind Side" in the NFL again.

* For those of you who aren't football junkies the blindside refers to the position of left tackle, which Oher played in college and high school. When he got drafted by the Ravens, he switched to right tackle, which is less of a premium position (becuase the left tackle protects the blind side of a right handed quarterback), because they already had a left tackle, Jared Gaither.

Gaah, I met the lady Sandra Bullock portrays one time, Leigh Anne Touhy (or however you spell it). I flew to Destin with her. Apparently she rents out my friend's Dad's plane all the time to fly her around so she can shop. She was pushing her book hardcore. Movie looks alright, excluding the decision to cast Tim McGraw.

I read the book and enjoyed it, but found it a little bit creepy at times. However, the movie looks to be typical cheesy Hollywood tosh. I'll probably watch it though.

I don't like Tim McGraw at all, but I thought he was really good in Friday Night Lights. Certainly I like his acting far better than any of his crap music.
