Does anyone remember when Capitol Records used to sign Heavy Metal bands and 80's hair metal, back in the day?

Wow. Music has drastically changed.

No name bands signing to major labels? Why does this happen recently...Fivespeed is another example.

Recently? I thought it's been happening since forever. Coldplay, White Stripes, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Goo Goo Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, etc. were all "no name bands" at some point prior to signing major.

They signed Less than Jake ~10 years ago....

I know what you mean though.

I am wondering why these guys got signed, but whatever...there are usually a couple of 'wtf' bands on each major label's roster.

hahaha...last summer when I was getting some pancakes at some little resturant in Seasdie Heights NJ the owners were telling me about their sons band and this is them. They played their cd for me and wanted me to buy it. Pretty funny.

these actually write great tracks, i have their self released album that came out over the summer, the majority of the people here would like them im sure, they have a led zeppelinish style to them http://www.purevolume.com/whataboutfrank listen to the song "strange way out"

yeah capital is notorious for signing about 5 "wtf" bands a year pretty much, and they don't put any money behind them and ultimately drop them after they put out an album.

I have been following these guys for years ever since my old band played this crappy venue next to the stone pony for the matinee show and they showed up because they were playing the night show and I asked them what band they were in. Definitely a great band.

good for them, these guys have been bustin their butts off for a while. to all the haters in this thread, shut the fuck up, you can talk shit when your band is signed to a major.

this isnt that bad, but it is kind of weird that capitol signed them. I like the old school feel to it though, good luck.

Coldplay was well on their way to being huge before they moved over to Capitol.

The Go were a buzz band long before Jack went on to start the White Stripes.

But I get what you are saying.

i had two or three songs by them like two years ago and i haven't listened to them in a while--strange to hear that they were signed to a major since there hasn't been any buzz around them at all.

It's always really fun to hear about local bands that get signed. They played a show at my high school over a year ago with out their singer... fun times. Good for them!!:)

i think one of the guys used to go to my college and work at the radio station i'm at now. we played their songs on the radio of course and they werent that bad, but this is just a big shocker. i dont know if i feel that capitol made a bad choice or happy that a band from around us got signed.

i've seen them a bunch of times, they play almost every local show. they're not BAD they're just not good. it sounds like a led zeppelin cover band, playing at the drive in songs with cedric on vocals. it's weird. nothing too special, but they're not awful. one of the guitarists is a good guy. if anyone got signed to capitol i'm glad it's them and not a chug-chug band.

what about frank is huge in the red bank area, they have been working hard for years to get to this level and they deserve it. there diffrent from every other mainstream band out there. Its a greta thign seeing an amazzing band break through, best of luck. If any here is talking shit and has never even herd them I suggest you listen to their album or see them live. They have one best live act for the past 2 years at the asbury music awards. They play real rock n roll not emo/screamo hardcore shit.
