For some reason when people enjoy the same Dream Theatre, Metallica, etc - randomly Muse is piled in there.

I hate every single of these bands but it was merely a observation.

Most hip-hop doesn't suit with the rest of my music (considering i have 95% indie (cred what up) music in my collection) so it relatively sticks out. Wale, Blu!, Cecil, Ghostface are my jams at the moment.

I've had a taste for Metal and prog music for a really long time, and still love it. But I can't help but love classical guitar, I guess this stems from my infatuation with Randy Rhoads who played a Neo-classical style. Another thing, I love the Beatles now, and never expected to.

I don't think it's about a guilty pleasure, so much as sometimes there's that one thing that doesn't really fit in or that you just never pictured yourself liking. There doesn't have to be anything guilty about it.

For me, I never expected to listen to stuff that falls under the category of hip-hop. But lately I have been, a little.

"i listen to millionaires"

are two completely different things. millionaires don't deserve a record contract or any real recognition like that. their music isn't good. but when you're wasted, it is hilarious

Jesus. Look, why is it so important to a large segment of this website that their music fit within a marginalized "scene," and that they have "guilty pleasures" that don't fit neatly into that compartmentalized standard of bands? It's shallow, boring and absurd.

Firstly, no one should limit what they listen to in an attempt to be firmly rooted in a "style" of any kind, Secondly, enjoying something shouldn't be a "guilty pleasure," which is one of the most pretentious (note: the correct use of the adjective) things a person can say.

Annnnnnd you can never judge anyone about anything ever again and any argument you enter will be ended by someone saying "you listen to the millionaires." Hope you're ready for that.

Everyone will invariably judge someone else's (likely multiple people's) taste in music by their own subjectively-derived template of "good." No one has any more or less authority to make "judgments" on others taste, given the nature of taste itself. In accordance to my subjectively-derived idea of quality, your enjoyment of shit like Say Anything would exclude you from "judgment," but then, that's only as it pertains to what I deem "good."

Oh, and I'd rather listen to the horrendous-yet-hilarious Millionaries than the self-important bullshit that Max Bemis spouts off. Can I now negate your ability to "judge?" No? Whoops.

I don't think that's what they're asking for. I took "music you wouldn't think you'd listen to" to mean "if you met yourself on the street, this would be surprising considering what you wear/how you hold yourself/what general 'scene' you appear to be a part of", which I don't think is as controversial as "Jonas Bros, iz such a gulty plasure, OMFG!". It's just, "hey everyone, you might be surprised to know I listen to ________".

EDIT: Just read the original post, that is exactly what this is supposed to be. Rant away, Todd.
