well, i hate to sound petty, but due to myself being a dumbass, and some bad karma too, i damaged a lot of my hair. i don't want to cut it of, i mean it's a bit frizzy but i'd rather have it as is than be bald because i look shitty bald. what are fast and/or effective ways to repair hair?

Get a good shampoo/condition to try to reverse it?

Mosh

i've tried, i'm using dove frizz control shampoo + conditioner and occasionally mane n tail but it doesn't seem to be working(or working fast)

If you flat iron it - stop. I had the same problem. So I cut off four inches and stopped straightening it. Now it's all better.

Well, how long is your hair? Aren't there some foods you can eat to make your hair healthier?

I don't think anyone here is an expert, maybe you can find an expert on hair. Try googling "frizzy hair dumbass repair hair expert advice anal." except leave the anal out.

i don't flat iron. here's what caused my hair to be fucked

some of the hair on the back of my head/neck had been damaged from getting it relaxed. so i made a mixture of eggs/olive oil/canola oil to put in my hair and i was SUPPOSED to leave it in for half an hour, but kept it in for almost TWO hours. so when i washed it out, it was fucked up

Chemically relaxing your hair will fuck it up more than anything else. I did that once and my hair became so brittle that it pretty much started breaking and falling out. Honestly, you just have to take care of it until it grows out at this point.

I think you can find it at walmart, target, wherever. There is usually a section with special haircare for african american hair. (Probably on the same aisle with other haircare stuff, just it's own section). There will be chemical relaxers, that blue magic hair grease, etc. Just look for something that says deep conditioner. The instructions will probably tell you to leave it in for a certain amount of time before you rinse it out (5-10 minutes). Or look for a hot oil treatment.

wash your hair in cold water when you shower and leave the conditioner in till ur about to get out then rinse with cold water, repeat for a few weeks (got my hair fixed from swimming for 3 months)

hmm, sounds familiar. should i be looking for normal african-american hair products, or relaxed african-american hair products. also, how often would i have to use a deep conditioner/hot oil treatment for my hair to be repaired?

I would look for a product that says it treats whatever your problem is. If your hair is relaxed, use that. I would just keep using it. You can't repair damaged hair. This is important: as soon as you feel comfortable with cutting your hair (to keep it at a length you like) start trimming it regularly (every 4 weeks or so). Having damaged hair on the ends keeps your hair from being healthy.

Once hair has split it can't be fixed, however just damaged hair can usually be repaired it's just really hard. Cut as much off as you can bear to stand, then work on fixing it. Deep condition it at least once a week, leave the product in for about 5 minutes and vary the type of product you use whether it's a mask, oil, conditioner, overnight treatment etc.. Don't use any more chemical relaxant on it right now and go to the hairdressers and ask for specific treatments for your hair type.

Good luck.

When I was in 9th grade, my hair was a little bit past my breasts, then because I was reckless with it, I damaged it badly (and to top it off some bitch who hated me decided to cut off a good chunk of it in class one day) so the owner of the hair salon I go to decided that I should just cut all of the damage off. My hair went to the middle of my neck, she told me what to do to take care of it (like dont run the flat iron through it a bunch of times at a medium heat, do it once or twice at the high heat for less damage) and it grew back really quick.

So just cut it, take care of it, and let it grow back...it's the easiest thing to do.

Not from target. I think he should go to a salon and do something like a hot oil treatment, and then skip out on the relaxers get a professional (who knows what they're doing) to give him a good texturizer (or leave it natural so that it can thrive). I do the whole deep conditioner thing once every two weeks at the salon in the winter because it's so dry. If he's going to do anything to fix his hair he should do it professionally.

what's texturizer?

A texturizer is like a way tamer form of a relaxer that's better on your hair and works for more hair types than a relaxer does. Because really relaxers are evil evil evil (I've never had one, but seriously I see what they do to people's hair). If you cut it, I think you should grow it out and leave it natural for a while. When I do the whole natural thing I use that humectress conditioner from nexxus (kind of expensive but you can get it from target) and when I'm done taking a shower and my hair is soaking wet I'll put some in (my hair is long so I do four pumps now from the big bottle) and it tames it pretty nicely.

From my personal experience (my hair salon asked me if they could do a thermal straightener on me because I have the perfect hair type for it, so I do those at a discount and get to be their free hair model around town) when my new growth gets to a certain length, it tangles up with the chemically treated hair extremely easy and then it breaks off from me trying to deal with it.

I always thought that was the main reason, but there might be other reasons for the breakage too.

keratin complex smoothing therapy > all forms of relaxer. it actually works as a treatment on your hair while relaxing it at the same time. it's expensive but worth it.

as far as the original problem, you can't necessarily reverse damaged hair. once it's fried/split, it needs to be cut off other wise it's gonna keep splitting up the hair of the shaft. and use better shampoo/conditioner than dove. grocery store shampoos have detergents in them that are terrible for hair. i'm assuming you don't wash it every day. if you do, stop.

if you want a good weekly treatment, look around your local salons for bumble and bumble or rene furterer. they both have amazing treatment systems that can help with damaged hair.
