he let the phils tie it by running in on a ball way over his head in center (don't care that it isn't his normal position) and scored the game winning run on an error

derrick turnbow on the other hand is nasty

he also hit a walk off homerun yesterday, been a model of consistency at the plate and has played solid defense at 3B, SS, 2B, as well as the outfield. he plays wherever ned yost tells him and excels at it every time

he had a leadoff double tonight, and was bunted home after the pitcher made a shitty throw to third.

If they can get their shit together on the road, this team should be in WC contention pretty much all year. It's too bad they play in the Central though, because I don't think they'll be able to overcome Houston or St. Louis.

the two wild card teams might come out of the central if all goes well. doubtful, but possible. cause we know the reds will fade.

Yeah, I don't think Cincy's pitching will hold up all year, and NL hitters are going to figure out Arroyo after a couple of go arounds.

how is it maybe Dunn? People are stupid if they don’t notice Giambi. Brian Giles, maybe, but I have never seen love for Dunn. And its all because he has a low BA and lots a SO. Well, Adam also has a beautiful ISOB (isolated on base percentage) and ISOS (isolated slugging percentage). The guy has had a nice OBP and SLG since he first started playing and in 2 out of the 3 years he has had over 500 AB's, he has hit 40 homeruns. Dunn wins in my opinion.

I heard two weeks.

Hall will Primarily play SS, Cirrilo will move to the utility infilder and Clark will get center back.

Hall is underrated, but its's not just him the whole team is underrated, all you hear is pujols, why because hes on a good team and is a good player but Carlos Lees stats are the near the same but its the team he is on that ruins it for him.

Turnbow is also underrateed to the MAX. I mean you can't get much more dominent than him...

Go Brewers, I will be at Saturdays Twins Brewers game..SEC 319 Row uno..

Where? I dont think people realize just how good he is. If he was a FA today he would not make top dollar like other players have and do, even though he is more valuable.

Mike Lowell is underrated right now, but over his career, not as much as Dunn.

NetNerdsRevenge

how much did Konerko get? 50 million? Maybe he gets that much, but I still dont think regular people know how good he is. I mean, that fact that when he had almost the same amount of homeruns as he did singles is telling you something.

Adam Dunn isn't underrated. He only has one tool.

Sure, he can crank the ball like no other, but he can't hit for average (.247 for his career, .222 this season), he's slow, and he's a wreck in the outfield.

He has more power hits (doubles, homeruns) than he does singles. In sabermetric worlds thats straight brilliant. (of course you dont want a line-up full of Dunns, but as a power hitter, he is up there.) A double and homerun have more weight in value as far as Run index, win probability, and all that stuff, than a single would. and you pointing out average is exactly why he is underrated. Batting average on a whole is overrated and because Dunn does not have a high average, he must not be that good of a player...wrong. His slg percentage really doesn't show you how much of a power hitter he is. If he hit more singles and got his average up, his slg would rise even higher than it is right now. He is one of the best isolated power hitters in the game. UZR doesnt think he is a wreck in the outfield. It as him at -4 runs and -1 for arm. Better than Bonds, Manny, and Sheff. Hardballtimes who invented a system similar to UZR (not as good) has him at -9.2. still a far cry from "wreck." And if you dont like him in the OF, stick his ass on first base. And since when does speed mean a thing when you hit doubles and homeruns constantly?

No one said he wasn't a good player... But he's not underrated.

Having more power hits than singles is brilliant if the player actually hits singles as well... He doesn't. Obviously doubles and HR's have more weight towards run index and such, but because that's all he hits isn't necessarily a good thing. They would both be higher if he actually put more balls into play.

I will give credit to the fact that his OBS is pretty high for a guy with a .222 average. At least he gets on base through walks.

By the way, what do you use to look up sabermetric stats? I wanted to look at UZR for outfielders so I could see where he stands.

how is the whole team underrated? They're only a game above .500. you can't be "underrated" if you're hovering around .500

and lee is hitting 26 points less than Pujols, with 15 fewer RBI's and 11 fewer total bases and 11 fewer walks. in fact, lee has less HR's, RBI's, Walks than Jim Thome.

of course his numbers would be better if he hit more, but people still do not realize how good he is. His isolated power is probably better than anyone else in the league and thus his run index and all that is bettet than someone would expect.

Damn, nicest hat I've seen.

Dunn walks a shit load. He's not slow, and he has the ability to steal bases.

I still think it's Giles. Had a 1.008 OPS away from that hell-hole last year, that's ridiculous.

I think Giles is up there, but I still dont think (and I cannot stress it enough) that people realize that Dunn's low average coupled with a high OBP and SLG makes him all the better. Basically every time he hits he hits for power.

Still, if Giles wasnt playing in that shit hole ballpark, he would be a top tier player.

Split2nd
05/18/06, 09:52 PM
Not so far this year, but that's because of aging/decline. Last year though, phew.

If Dunn could get his contact rate up, he'd be ridiculously good. Unfortunately, I think if that did go up, his power would go down. I think as he is, he's a great player. A team full of Adam Dunns would be tops in the league in runs scored.
