I used to steal my dad's copy of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" on cassette all the time when I was little.

This is one of those groups that my dad has always listened to.So I was subjected to it from a very young age and whenever a song comes on I know all the words,It's kinda nice and makes me think of my dad.

The Boxer is one of the best sing-a-long-whilest pissed songs I've ever heard

not to disagree with tate, but I would never call Simon and Garfunkel "pop."

but yeah, easily one of the best bands ever to emerge from the 60's. Just listen to the Sounds of Silence.

Good stuff. I hear a lot of Simon and Garfunkel influence in some of Rocky Votolato's songs.

they write an amazing soundtrack to "The Graduate". I love the way it was used in there

They're the reason I love music as much as I do... I used to come home every day from school in kindergarten and watch their show at Central Park... every single fucking day. My friends started to hate me cause that's all I'd want to do when they'd come over

Bumping. Listened to Bookends again over the weekend. That shit is ridiculously amazing. Love these two men so much.

Nice bump. Bookends and Bridge Over Troubled Water really are two standout fucking records. "Only Living Boy in New York," "Baby Driver," "The Boxer," "Fakin' It." Their non-colossal hits could beat a lot of bands greatest comps.

They are just incredible. Yes those two albums are killer. Sounds of Silence is also incredible. I could honestly listen for days on end.

Album or song? I'm ashamed to admit I've never heard the whole record.

Well both but I meant the album. I got this box set of theirs used for 10 bucks that had like six albums in it, packaged like mini LPs so I listened to the a ton for awhile and was just renewing my interest this weekend. You should listen to it. Wonderful stuff.

I was a bit afraid because while I do like Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, I never thought it stood up next to the two records that followed it, so I was nervous to go back further. Now I must though.

Also, that's a hell of a deal.

I got it used plus my employee discount when I worked for FYE so it was a great deal. But you should go back into everything because otherwise you will be missing out greatly.

Spinning it on napster now. The title track literally never gets old, no matter how many thousands of times I hear it.

True story. I love that song. It's weird the shit I got into when I was little. My parents are not big on music but the first two CDs I ever heard was the Simon and Garfunkel greatest hits and Counting Crows, August & Everything After. Strange combo but have remained two of my favorite things ever

Both amazing records. What your parents listen to is a huge factor in the formation of your music tastes, whether you love it or rebel against it. I can trace my love of so many different styles back to my parents' record collections. Including S&G.

The Counting Crows choice was more so my uncle who even named his daughter after their song. But they did help shape my tastes and helped give me the hatred towards things like the terrible country they constantly played. I feel like we've kinda talked about this before and you were really lucky with childhood music.

Oops. I can never remember who I've talked to about what. Haha. My b.

Was she named Maria or Anna? Cause that's be balls.

Also, "Kathy's Song" is definitely one of my favorite S&G songs. Reminds me so much of Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather." Fucking gorgeous.

Her name is Ana haha. I think she knows it but she is only 10 so maybe not. And Kathy is my mom's name so we always played that jam. Love it probably now more then ever.

That's so, so dope. S&G's song "For Emma, Wherever I May Find Her" has always made me consider the girl's name Emma for a potential kid's name.

Emma is just a beautiful name so that is a good choice.

I LOVE the name Maria, but I feel like it's more suited to those of Hispanic descent, maybe.

And obv I love the name Hailey/Haley in all its spellings.

good picks, dude.

Probably would call her Mary as a nickname. But hahaha yeah I have always loved the name Hailey and that was actually the reason I further investigated your band.

That and Ashley ordered you to.

Speaking of S&G naming inspirations, "Cecelia" would be a nice name, too.

The great thing about the album and most of their albums is that they are short enough to not get bored but long enough to really absorb, but short enough to play over and over. Such good stuff. I am glad you enjoyed it so much. Fucking fantastic.

In my honest opinion, Paul Simon >>> Art Garfunkel

But their music is brilliant together

Great song. It's a pretty similar chord progression, and fun as hell to play. I can't remember his name, but I read that Bob and Paul Simon learned it from the same guy who wrote "Scarborough Fair", and then they both kind of reworked it several times for different songs. "Girl From The North Country" is almost identical to that song too.

And I'm a big fan of all of their albums. Bookends is my favorite though.

I mean, Simon is clearly the songwriter, but Garfunkel is a better singer and he arranged most of the vocals. Neither was as good without the other.

Yeah that song is emotionally devastating.

Simon has a few solo albums that are on par with any of the S&G work I think. S/T, Rhythm of The Saints, Graceland and Still Crazy... are all terrific. Garfunkel certainly wasn't useless, though.

Art's solo album Breakaway is pretty amazing, too, if you're into soft-rock from that era. His take on "I Only Have Eyes for You" is wonderful.

Some of the notes Garfunkel hits in "Bridge Over Troubled Water" at his age absolutely floored me.
