Barring a huge collapse the series is ours, but you can't count out a team like the Dodgers in game 5. Padilla could pitch and he was lights out in game 2. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if the series goes back to LA for at least game 6.

they squeaked by in game 2. i'll acknowledge the pitching wasn't what i expected but there's no reason to expect it to turn around in any way.

Few notes.

Phillies are the first NL team ever to win 16 out of 20 postseason games in 2 years. Yankees are the only AL.

Phillies are the first NL team ever to win 5 straight series without trailing at any point in terms of games in the series.

Cole Hamels was 1 out away from being the first pitcher ever to record a win in games 1 and the clincher in back-to-back LCS games.

It is crazy to think about this franchise seemed like they were stuck in quicksand for so many years. Thank God Chase Utley and Ryan Howard were never traded for Barry Zito.

Do you think this would be the case if Hamels was actually pitching like he did last year?

yes. hamels can get by and be successful with low 90s stuff and a nasty curve but he's a number 2 guy at best and is easily overmatched by sabathia on pure stuff alone. in a 7 game series and possibly facing sabathia and/or hamels 3 times -- even if it's hamels of 2008 -- you tell me how you think that's gonna go.

well yea, but youre forgetting Lee

Lee > Burnett IMO

burnett in his career vs. the current phillies (http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/p-pvb.cgi?n1=burnea.01#choice=&bats=&minPA2=0&year_game=career&opp_id=PHI&orderby=PA&orderbyb=Name&minPA=0&orderbydir=DESC&orderbydirb=ASC&n1=burnea.01&as=pitcher)

lee in his career vs. the current yankees (http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/p-pvb.cgi?n1=leecl02#choice=&bats=&minPA2=0&year_game=career&opp_id=NYY&orderby=PA&orderbyb=Name&minPA=0&orderbydir=DESC&orderbydirb=ASC&n1=leecl02&as=pitcher)

there's some small sample sizes in there but the numbers speak pretty well.

Here is where I get into the the whole playoffs are different argument... But yeah argument makes sense that even with Hamels at his best they have better pitching. Hopefully Hamels is at his best though.

Last night was wild but we were all talking about how beating the Yankees this year would rival last year. I mean I waited 24 years to win last year but the Yanks after they spent all that money this year would be wild. With all due respect to the Rays, I would have rather played Boston last year too.

Agree 100%. I would rather beat the Yankees or Red Sox to win the world series. Just feels better.
