If I were you I'd listen to better screamers, if screaming is really what you're into. Also it sounds like you're coming from your throat at times, which is a big "no no" unless you want vocal chord surgery in your future.

Takes a while to kill, trust me I know, but once you're over them they don't come back.

If Scramz = screams then yes. I can't sing worth a shit. I know the audio is crap, but i worked with what i had and that was photobooth on my macbook.

Well I think that was a joke. Alesana is a joke. And putting up youtube videos of covering alesana for people to hear is a joke. And it wasn't good.
Cover Veil of Maya, a band who's screaming is worth listening to, and then i'll applaud you.

I don't think the most efficient way to teach is to drop the final on students on the first day of class.

What? It's not enough to bastardize the terms "emo" and "screamo"? "Skramz" is dead, too?

Why are you doing vocal covers?
Sounds like a giant waste of time... you need attention that bad?
And stop screaming. Please.

If you want to be taken seriously as a vocalist then join a real band, don't post vocal covers on youtube.

Can you, or do you scream? Because yes, it is a talented, and is recognized as one by a lot of vocal professionals.

I would, but I go to school at Penn State which has no local music scene. I've posted on CL looking for people to play with I've posted flyers on campus, but i haven't had any luck. I do it for the sake of practice.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with @Timb89. I've studied voice for quite some time, and while I don't judge someone for choosing to scream, I think it could be considered a talent in the same way that people train themselves to be hung by hooks. Sure, it takes training to perform either one, but I don't think I would really group it with singing. And none of the vocal coaches I have worked with recognized it. I'm not intending to offend anybody, just sharing my view.

Do/did any of your vocal coaches have any experience with 20th century music? And yes, I am referring to art music. There's plenty of music for voice that involves screaming.

I agree, I hope with time I can become good.

so your comparing it to singing talent?
no i don't scream nor do i ever intend to. i have two friends who taught themselves to scream over a short period of time, with no extraordinary musical talent. i will never regard it than anything more than painful noise that ruins songs that for some reason bands feel the need to include. sometimes it works, 90% of the time it doesn't.

They all had experience with contemporary music. I worked with a variety of different coaches and none of them recognized it. I don't really know that many types of music that utilize screaming in different ways. There seem to be a lot of genres coming out that incorporate it, but I don't think that the genres are all valid by any stretch (screamcrunk, horrorcore, etc...)

I'm sure that you're friends, over that short time, probably screamed in a manner that sounded terrible, and probably wrong form and will eventually destroy their throats. You have a biased view, because you don't enjoy any music that involves screaming. Yes, I do compare it to singing talent, just like singing, screaming is something that everyone can do, but only talented people can do well.

show me someone who can do it well then?
screaming is just a release, singing involves control.

ageed. i would love to sit down and talk with a vocal coach who explores screaming and to see how he would justify it.

screaming well involves a lot of control. just because you're not hitting specific notes when you scream doesn't make it easy.

Yeah, absolutely no control there.

didn't say it wasn't easy, i just don't consider someone who can do it overtly talented. also i don't enjoy it in my music. perhaps only on very rare occasions.

In my opinion singing is harder but screaming still requires a good amount of talent
Yeah, absolutely no control there.
QnO8NuqfvWI
i'd say there is an element of control there, you can see he is controlling his breathing. but i would have to say i was the more talented one. i had a harder time controlling myself to watch all of that. do people actually listen to that for leisurely purposes?
i see no difference from that and this:

I know a few here that recognize it and it's use in art music.

EDIT: The only reason I'm entering into this debate at all is because I've heard some fantastic music, both art and pop, that utilized screaming that exhibited a number of "musical" aspects similar to singing.
