It was reported today that Hans Blix wants the UN to send his team back to Iraq, to help find WMD and such...what do you all think?

personally, i have a few questions about it:

1. How many years is it going to take this time around?

2. If they were so certain that there were no weapons, why the sudden desire to rush back into Iraq and search for them? (perhaps so they don't end up looking any more incompetent when/if WMD's are discovered)

3. They have already proven that they cannot get the job done, why should they be allowed back?

i guess i wouldn't really care, as long as the coalition inspections are continued, along with the UN inspections...

its already pretty fucking evident that there aren't any WMD's in Iraq, there is no need for Hansy to send inspectors in there.

A better use of UN funds would be a weapons inspection of US WMDs... oh snap! that would never happen... pitty.

i understand that point, but why do they want to go back so badly, if they believe there are no weapons?

First of all, there has never been any certainty one way or the other on whether or not Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. Blix said the entire time that they have found no "smoking gun" but that the Iraqi's were not participating the way they had agreed, never did he say, "we are certain that Iraq does not have weapons of mass destruction." Second him being back gives any findings more credibility to the rest of the world, the US is not the only country involved in this and everything that we do looks a bit bias, since we depend heavily on finding these weapons. Also he brings a little more expertise, he has actually been in the area and searched for weapons there.

I say let him back in. We have to be diplomatic again at some point.

I agree that both sides need to be diplomatic, but it seems that the UN is making their attempt now, saying we'd like to help out now. Also if you look back, the Bush administration has kind messed up relations prior to this whole war on Iraq thing.

Bush and the rest of the world, ie europe, clashed prior to the war, because hes conservative and there socialist, and the two don't mix or get along. That is why relations are a mess, both sides are at fault, or europe is at fault for the things they said and did following the elections (ie germany).
