I was listening to the Dandy Warhols today, and began to notice just how many octaves Courtney Taylor-Taylor can reach. The range between the songs "Solid" and "Plan A" are amazing. It got me thinking that there must be quite a few singers that are also capable of this.

Are there any singers similar to this that you can recommend me? And also,
Who do you feel has the most versatile voice?

Thom Yorke. The range in ridiculous.
Songs I've noticed the biggest difference is from the A wolf at the door verse to the last chorus of Sulk, but here is this...

I wouldn't grade versatility solely on the number of octaves you can squeeze out of your voice.

For me, it's Brandon Boyd. That man can do no wrong.

In terms of versatility, he came to my mind first. The Alchemy Index couldn't be a more perfect example.

You know, Dustin actually did not get much credibility from music critics for about 3 albums.

I loved his voice for awhile, but he never really left the same tone on the songs - just either sang or screamed to vary it up.

But lately he's really showed his voice has a lot of versatility. The improvement from Illusion of Safety until now is exponential. (Let me tell you that Illusion is one of my favorite records, btw.)

That's for sure. Others might include:

Chris Thile (Nickel Creek)
Dan Nigro (As Tall As Lions)
Marc Broussard
Bobby McFerrin
Jason Mraz (he can go from pop to opera)
Stevie Wonder

Wow. I've just spent the past half hour looking up all these artists.
Hearing some of Dustin Kensrue's solo stuff, I never would've guessed that he was the vocalist in Thrice!

It's a pretty big difference for sure. His solo stuff is closest to Thrice's Earth EP. He seems to add a bit of twang when solo.

I agree that CTT has a great, versatile voice. I also agree with a lot of what others have said in this thread, Beck stands out.

That said, I've always found Dustin Kensure an interesting vocalist, able to flip a switch from a very solid and powerful melodic style to a near perfect screamcore type style at the drop of a hat. Always impressed me, at times he can have a beautiful tonal quality and then scream and go right back to that great melody like it's nothing, whereas tons of other bands with any styles resmblign Thrice needs multiple vocalists to do what he does.

Definitely. The Earth Ep has a sadder vibe to it though, I reckon.
