Remake of the George A. Romero film of the same title. The trailer looks decent, but I loved the use of Mad World the last third of the trailer. I'll probably go see it.

....this looks to have potential, and Olyphant's a hell of an actor....and so far all of Romero's remake have been of quality, so lets hope this keeps up the streak.

I don't really care for Romero outside of Creepshow and some of his other smaller films so I dont know if I actually mind this remake as much.

Anyway, I think it looks like it'll be a good movie, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they couldn't have just released it under a different name and not considered it a remake/re-imagining/whatever the fuck. There is literally nothing in the trailers that I have seen that give any inclination that it will be like the original at all, starting with why they made them all disfigured. The reason why the original was so great was because they weren't zombies or anything of the sort at all. They were in every way normal looking, they had just gone stark-raving mad.

Haha, good on ya. Glad you went back and delved into his stuff - dude is a genius.

He is probably the most influential director in the genre's history and directed the flick that would be in every horror fans top 2 or 3, so I read that and was kinda shocked.

Yes and yeser. I can't stress enough how much it isn't like the original, haha, but yeah. I mean, Timmy O killed it, the supporting cast did what most supporting casts in major horror can't do and that's NOT ANNOY THE FUCK OUT OF YOU (they were actually great; specifically the deputy sheriff). As Teej hit on, cinematography was fantastic. Edge-of-the-seat type-movie man and I had a blast. Some great gore that wasn't over the top at all. Two thumbs up and worthy of the good...to great praise it's getting.

Away. Wow. My jaw was on the floor man, that shot was fucking so awesome. Really wish they would have just cut like that and not have left it semi-open. I mean, the way they did it, I love that you have that last feeling of, "hahah, fuck, here goes 120,000 more people fucked," but the final shot being them with the nuclear waste in the background would have been sick. I guess in the same light, though, it was sweet to see that they were going to go into another city b/c it meant that it clearly wasn't an accident, which is what Romero's original really stressed. Hmm, I wish I didn't see it alone now so I could talk it out, haha.

I honestly had no idea that the military was going to be involved and what not (I haven't seen the Romero original) and it really added to the film for me. The nuke scene was absolutely ridiculous, but in a good way.

Best horror movie I've seen in such a long time. My bff and I were tense as hell for the entire thing!
Joe Anderson's performance was amazing (he was the deputy sheriff).

Fun fact: I also love that this was set and partly filmed in Iowa. The town they picked was right outside of the town one of my friends lived in and she ran into Joe Anderson and Radha Mitchell at her town's Wal-Mart one day. She said they were nice as hell. Also, some of her friends got to be extras in the baseball scene.

At the obvious "saved at the last moment" points you could easily tell what was going to happen, but oh well. I think if he was startled and scraped her in the leg or something instead it would have been more effective.

I just came back from it. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, there were the "saved at the last moment" scenes and whatnot, but some scenes were absolutely awesome. The car wash scene especially, and I thought the scene where Russel was killed was beautifully shot. That being said, some of the dialogue was laughable ex. "What do you want me to say" "How about SORRY!" ...really?. A part of me kept hoping that the sheriff's wife would die. It would have been an incredibly ballsy move, but it probably, in all reality, compromised his motivation. If he went all "Taken" on their asses though, that would have been kinda cool. Part of this was because the wife annoyed the shit out of me at some parts. Also...they nuked the fridge. -_-. . Definitely do not regret spending eight bucks to see it though.

There wasn't anything annoying about the wife at all. She was great. And for anyone to go 'all Taken' in anything during an Infection Apocolypse would probably make me walk out of the theater. That's absolutely retarded.

Yeah, those are the basic conventions of the genre, not flaws.

I don't remember 28 days later having this issue and I'm still torn on the crazies if I should see it now or wait for video.

That would be cool if it had an alternate ending on the DVD release.

A fair point. My friends all pointed that at to me too after I told them. I have no justification for why I thought that would be a good idea and there's really no way I can defend my self for thinking it would be either. Ah, well.

Thinking about it more though, I really did enjoy the movie and would definitely see it again. The direction of it reminded me of Left 4 Dead, which I loved.

:-)

There's a time and place for a protagonist to become all juiced-up badass and just fuck shit up on some zombies/infected, but I just can't see it in The Crazies. Woody in Zombieland comes to
mind. It works bc it's a more comedic approach.

I'm sure this kid is just trolling IMDb but I found this on their message boards. It was funny. Guess my first mistake was even looking at their message boards in the first place.

"This movie flat out glorifies theft. In the scene where they arrive at the truck stop, Timothy Olyphant's character proceeds into the store and just takes whatever he sees fit. Radha Mitchell's character just grabs a bottle of water off the counter and gulps it down. Stealing is wrong, no matter what the situation entails. The youth of America can see this movie, and will think it is somehow "hip" or "cool" to steal things. I know this movie has an R rating, but you know kids are bound to see it. What if some young adult from your neighborhood happens to see the scene where the big rig truck is stolen, and thinks it might be okay to steal your truck too? I bet you wouldn’t be too happy. The actor’s performances in this movie are decent, but I only wish they conveyed more Christian values. There is a right and wrong, black and white, this movie is just plain wrong. Hollywood, the writers and producers of this movie only have themselves to blame for the corruption of young minds and the glorification of larceny."

I really did too. I'm trying to spread the word about it. My favorite part that I really want to re-watch is the car wash scene followed by the car explosion. That last moment was just perfect. And the deputy's reaction was the cherry on top.

just finished watching this (there is a good rip out there) and i enjoyed it. For the past couple movies that have attempted something like this i thought it was executed really well. I agree with others that it was shot beautifully and had some really fantastic and creative scenes. But i really felt the ended kinda shot the movie in the foot a bit. I thought to imply that was stupid

And it's regarded by me to be a glorified arcade game with a half-decent cast. I get the 'fun' value of it, but beyond that, it's just not that great of a movie. Just like all Zach Snyder movies.
