I dont think we should do anything stupid like nuke France, but if we make it so they dont have a part in rebuilding Iraq (and why would they deserve to) and we pull a Cuba on them and not even communicate or trade or anything, I think we will get our message across

I think France has too much power anyway. They should not be a permanant member of the Security Council. Comparing them to the US, Britian, Russia, and China is rediculous. France is a second-rate military and economic power; they don't deserve their position.

Give it to Japan. Or even Germany. But my first pick is Japan

Yeah, because Russia is definitely an economic power.... LMAO! They're not strong economically, but they are strong militarily and politically, as well as owning the upper half of Asia, which is somewhat signifigant.

This may sound crazy, but stay with me on it. Take away veto power alltogeather. Even from The US.

Germany is not in the same boat as the French. We own them in every way but maybe not militarily. Our economy and industry is the best in Europe. However, Yes Japan should get the seat too. France does not deserve it anymore, what they once were is irrelevant to what they are now. Just cuz they used to be a huge power doesnt mean that they should be still given the same power they had back then. Japan is huge economically and holds alot of influence in Asia.

first we aren't threatinging to punish the french because they disagree with us, we are doing so because they lied to us, they speak out of both sides of their mouth. on one hand they're saying that they are our allies and will stand with us and vote for res. 1441, with complete understanding that doing so will require them to act on the "serious consequences" provided by the resolution. on the other hand they are supplying Iraq with weapons, they are providing a safe haven for fleeing Iraq officials, they had oil contracts signed with Saddam Hussein, they would not allow NATO forces to protect Turkey, nor would they even allow a vote on the "use of force", promising to veto any new resolutions.

I agree that they should be punished some how, whether it be not inviting them to international meetings or whatever. I would definatly consider kicking them out of NATO, since they aren't even part of the mutual protection agreement, they reap all of the benefits but refuse to take any of the risk.

As for getting rid of UN veto's, i would go 1 step further and say get rid of the UN all together, but that probably wouldn't fly, so getting rid of the veto's would be OK i suppose, however, if it came to that, i am almost certain that the US would drop out of the UN permantely.

i dont think one can punish em really, even if its a good idea...imagine the outcry it might bring from the EU....the gap between the USA and EU will increase even further and i dont think thats exactly a step in the right direction for the futur of mankind..

the EU would probably be happy, the french are trying to take over the EU and become its lead memeber, and i'm sure there are several countries involved that would rather that didn't happen.
