Yeah, I really really want to see this. it's been going around for awhile now, so i'm sure it's in pre-production or past that. And Kevin motha fuckin' Smith is in it.

I really want to see it. The writer/director is the same as Donnie Darko. Thats enough for me.

To my knowledge they've already started production, or at least that was what their plan was.

"Sarah Michelle Gellar recently wrapped work on Richard Kelly's "Southland Tales" and is currently filming "Alice" for director Marcus Nispel." straight from about.com, hope this helps. Plus it says filming started in July, so we are way past pre-production. Anything with Sean William Scott that is not a comedy will fail miserably.

id have to say you are wrong.......Richard Kelly casted both Sean William Scott and Sarah Michelle Gellar to prove people like you wrong.

Hmmm.... Sci Fi. Look at the movies he has under his belt. Seriously come on, he is a character actor and that is all he will ever be. Now as for SMG I am a huge fan only because of Buffy. Her acting range is soo limited. She is just terrible in comedies, romantic and otherwise. (Simply Irresistible, Scooby Doo) terrible in Drama (Cruel Intentions, Harvard Man if you can call them that) Her horror efforts are just sad she destroyed The Grudge and I Know What You Did Last Summer. She is a TV actor, at her best. Though I would love to be proved wrong. Oh come on The Rock too? I smell Oscar nods.

I think it was on Dinner for 5 where Kevin Smith mentioned takign the role, then shortly there after Jason Lee admitted to passing on it previously.

Worry. Read this little bit on it from my personal favorite journalist who saw it in Cannes. Sounds like it could be great, it just needs a little tightening up, or at worst another viewing. Apparently other critics are going to be less kind about this film, but that is not altogether surprising for this type of film. For those that don't know what Southland Tales is, it's the new Richard Kelly film (Donnie Darko writer/director) starring oddly enough The Rock, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Justin Timberlake. Plot sounds intense and extremely off the wall, which I love. It's going to be fun no matter what I think. No less, read if interested.

This is my most anticipated movie behind The Fountain.

The reviewer sounded like he enjoyed it, but didn't fully understand it. Donnie Darko got similar reviews.
He just saw it this morning. Plus, it's not complete yet. I'm sure once Kelly re-shoots some scenes and does some editing, it will come out a lot better.

I'm pumped for this film. Justin Timberlake as an actor sounds coooool.
And I want to see Kevin Smith.

Rented this last night and it's nowhere near as unwatchable as the critics made it out to be.

Quite the opposite really.

It's confusing as hell, but it kept me engaged the entire film.

I wish it was the directors cut though because if I'm going to watch a trainwreck, I want to see the whole thing.

Agreed, I would like to see the 3+ hour version, or whatever existed at first. I think what a lot of people found confusing about it is that they had no knowledge there is any backstory to it? There are three graphic novels worth of information that make it a more interesting film. Having bought and read all three, I found the film interesting. Then again, my expectations were low to begin with, and it doesn't actually take a lot to entertain me.

The critics were condemning the original edit, so the reason you didn't hate it is because of the extra cuts that were made as a result of critical reaction.

I can't say that I loved it, but I certainly didn't hate it. Kelly just let it get away from him. Too many ideas for one movie. It was all over the place.

Watched it yesterday and was confused the entire thing, yet I was still fairly interested in it.

I still wouldn't recommend it though.

During the movie, it felt like two and a half hours had passed by and I checked and I was only an hour and a half into it... Couldn't believe it.

How do you figure that, same guy made both films. Anyone can easily compare the two, and also how can someone consider Donnie Darko not to be overly "artistic"?

Donnie Darko was full of the same crap, you never really know for 100% what really is going on throughout.

When I was like 14 and first saw Donnie Darko, I was confused because I didn't understand the film. It wasn't until I saw the film a few years later that I realized it was just plain old shit writing.

AMAZING MOVIE!!!

wow..... ha i saw it for the 3rd time with a friend 2night and I am still stoked at how great this film turned on to be.

to all those people who were bored in the film? i dont understand! haha... time travel, end of the world, energy crisis, the rock haha, teenage hornyness, BEAUTIFUL MUSIC, terriffic writing and sigh...amazing stuff here.

I feel bad...this poor man who made this film got bashed for this film, which hopefully WONT, but probably will prevent him from ever making a film as creative as this again.

I love original concepts, i love far out themes....its just an overall great movie.

i LOVED donnie darko..and i LOVED southland tales. People just liked darko more because it was easier to comprehend, easier for the common movie goer, while southland tales had really far out themes. Too bad. The more people complain about movies like this...the more shitty Hulk movies we're going to get.

Gets some crap reviews but then all the good reviews say it's great and the reason it gets bad reviews is because they don't undertand the nature of the film

This shit kills me. Donnie Darko is one of the simplest movies I've ever seen. The only people who think its 'confusing' are either stupid or think that there's some big secret meaning behind it. There isn't. Kids nuts, travels through time, the end. Its a good movie, but come on people.
