was this the "Punch Drunk Love" for Will Ferrell...I think that is how it was described?
If so, then I definitely want to see it

i wouldn't call it that at all.
sandler carried that movie. ferrell is merely support. however, he's fucking great in it. try to imagine what you think will ferrell would be like if he weren't an actor. that's basically his character.
it's the same kind of movie as garden state, that sort of estranged homecoming kinda deal. but zooey deschanel is very very impressive as the lead. with ed harris and ferrell contributing some great support.
fantastic movie. definitely worth checking out if you like movies of this type.

This is my favorite movie of the year, I love the story and the acting is wonderful. They had one copy last night and I snagged it at blockbuster. I was so pleased. For $9 I got:
High Tension
Match Point
Winter Passing
It was a good night indeed.

excellent...I'm defintiely seeing it
I meant the Punch Drunk Love more as in a character departure for Will Ferrel, where he isn't the absurd comic relief really (Anchorman, Old School, etc)

he's still comic relief, but much more subtle than usual.

I have just now seen commercials for it. I didn't know about it at all, didn't know if it was even released in the theaters. So it is actually a good movie?

My friend just told me she watched this and it bored her to tears. Interesting note being that we disagree on nearly everything movie wise, so maybe that should make me excited. No less, critics were very iffy with this so I may take the praise with a grain of salt. I'll rent it tomorrow.

she's an idiot. its really good. very similar to garden state in that the main character goes back home after being away for so long and notices alot has changed.

Wow. You obviously have a lot of friends if you immediately regard someone who doesn't like a movie an idiot. Have you ever thought that maybe she would think you are "an idiot." It's quite possible this movie could be mediocre yet you connect with it, that's just something that happens sometimes. Moral of the story is, lay off peoples friends because you disagree with their opinions.
Food for thought. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/winter_passing/ Critics think you are an idiot. Ta da!
Edit: And she calls you a pig fucker. Natch.

oh ok thats real cool. i could care less. if she says she loves garden state but hates this then she truly is an idiot.

She doesn't. Although apparently critics agree, you can like Garden State without liking Winter Passing, it's supposed to be a subpar version of it. I will definitely watch it though, I don't really care about other peoples opinions, which you obviously don't either. I'll find out if you're an idiot soon enough!

That is random - I just watched this last night also!

Rather mediocre overall - Will Ferrell was oddly entertaining, decent music, some nice shots, tie scene was excellent, but overall was uneven and overhyped. Zooey was pretty meh (she is really hit or miss), Ed Harris was coasting and the rest of the cast either had underdeveloped roles or just did not make a mark with what they had. Anyways, gave it a shot, was really hoping for it to be great but it was ok. I'd give it a C+. Oh yeah, and I would give Garden State an A.

You sound like you put Garden State above it before you even watched it, therefore making your opinion mean nothing to me.
I love this movie, not as much as Garden State but I dont try and compare the two so one will obviously end up be rated much lower.
Does it remind me of Garden State? Yes. Is it supposed to be a sub-par version? No. It has it's own identity, she comes home and that is where the similarities stop at. The music is just as good, the characters are not as good though but like I said I enjoy Garden State better.
If I had to grade it, Garden State gets an A, Winter Passing gets a B+ or so.

The weird thing is I wouldn't even compare it to Garden State. I was just doing that because you were already doing that. It felt nothing like Garden State, the only similarity was a character going home. It just was pretty damn mediocre. I made no assumptions going in, I'm actually pretty damn objective about movies going in generally, unless I am really excited because that raises my expectations a lot and can throw me off.
