A few months ago, I started noticing that the ads on top of the page and on the main page were not necessarily related to music like they used to. Today, I was quite surprised to see a truck ad in French, which is impossible unless the ads themselves target specific users and aren't just there out of general interest. For the record, I live in Quebec, which is a French-speaking part of Canada.
I think it's a little upsetting since I was usually more than pleased to click on these ads; sometimes I would discover some of my favourite bands by doing so. Now - and I don't know if it's a cost-versus-returns rationale - I think the advertisement is getting away from the general mission this site always had, which is to promote music.
What is everyone's opinion on that? Do you mind seeing Home Hardware and GMC ads instead of indie labels promoting their bands?
