Less Than Jake (http://www.absolutepunk.net/lessthanjake)'s new album hits stores tomorrow - in celebration we're streaming the entire thing on the band's AP.net profile. Check that out!
I recommend picking up a copy of the limited edition version - it comes in this little hardcover book with all kinds of extra goodies (mp3s, dvd, pictures, videos, etc.).

On amazon it says that the special edition is the album with two dvd's.
I thought it was one dvd and a disk of unreleased stuff? I need to know because this is potentially my bro's 21st birthday gift

I mean, after listening to Anthem, I knew the next full-length after that would be pretty rough, but when I heard this a few days ago... man.
There are maybe 3 1/2 good songs on here, the rest is just garbage. The production is stiff, the voices are lifeless, it's disappointment city.

Couldn't have said it better myself. And I've been listening to this band for about 10 years now. It hurts to admit that Less Than Jake actually CAN do wrong.

For sure, Hello Rockview was one of the first "punk" CDs I bought, so I consider myself a fairly seasoned fan of them. I grew with them and identified with them and was fortunate to meet some of the guys 3-4 years ago. I don't necessarily expect them to throw me a bone for stuff I can connect with, but this falls SO flat for me that it's still a pretty upsetting moment for me.
"Rest Of My Life", "Maybe Memories", "Let Her Go", and the first half of "PS. Shock The World" are good, and... yep. "Fall Apart" is ok but it sounds like a Yellowcard tune to me, and Heaven knows I am not exactly the biggest Yellowcard tune.
It just sounds to me like they are trying to connect with a group of music listeners that never had any interest in them, while at the same time abandoning a lot of the people that truly cared about them in the first place.

I still love LTJ. I've only heard 4 songs and the two additional tracks from Absolution For Idiots and Addicts EP, but I thoroughly enjoyed those.
A question about the limited edition, will this be available in stores or only online?
I only like 2 songs off this album after repeated listening.
I've never listened to LTJ before, but I was expecting a faster Reel Big Fish for some reason.

the special edition comes with a cd-r containing the remixed b is for b-sides mp3s, and then random live songs in different cities in mp3 format, and then songs in a different set of cities in video format. and then the dvd is basically a making of the album.

I want to listen but dont want to ruin it for tomorrow old school fans of LTJ's ska sound will hate this but LTJ has been one of the only ska bands i really liked because they always sounded more pop punk than ska to me anyway so i've loved everything i've heard so far

Three songs on In With The Out Crowd were cowritten with professional songwriters.
These were:
* Overrated (Everything Is)
* Soundtrack of my life
* Hopeless Case
* The Rest of my Life (w/ Mark Hoppus of blink fame, so not quite as bad)
See here (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/discography/index.jsp?pid=170623&aid=767008) or inside the booklet for proof. That's why it isn't as good, 'cause it isn't LTJ - I blame Warner.

Face it, it's not Warner's fault, they just bit the bullet and released a turd. It sucks, but it's true.
(off topic: that website's description of borders and boundaries sickens me)

This album's getting more and more disappointing the more I read about it. Professional songwriters!?
Does anyone else remember the "We're All Dudes" fiasco? From what I recall, they were going to record a song for the Good Burger soundtrack, which they'd already written. But it turned out the soundtrack's/film's producers had written a song for them. They were going to opt out because they didn't want to play a song that someone else wrote but the producers offered a compromise: the band plays the music they wrote and Kel will sing the lyrics the producers wrote.
Don't get me wrong, the song sucked. But at least LTJ maintained some integrity that time.

I mean, the aspect of writing with professional songwriters doesn't even bother me. Those tracks are no more radio friendly than the rest of this album's drivel. I'm actually kind of surprised about "Hopeless Case", because I think the chorus to that is horrible.
Maybe a similar situation to the Anthem fiasco will take place, where the b-sides will be released and they'll destroy the regular album.

This is the worst LTJ album...
This album is to Less Than Kake like what "No Substance" is to Bad Religion.

Like a few other guys, it really hurts me to say this, but this album is just plain bad. And I think I knew it was coming when i heard the EP. Two of the four songs on the ep are not on the album, and those were the good songs on the EP.

Ah, that makes sense. Either way, I love the album.
It's not a ska record, and there's not nearly as many horns present, but it's a fun record and i'm really happy with it.
