He's 44 years old, and reports have confirmed that he will pitch not only for the team that pays him the most but for a winning team. At this point, all 4 suitors are doing decent. When push comes to shove, where do you honestly see Rocket going? I have the strong feeling that he'll, unfortunately, sign with New York.
Yeah, I'm a Yankees fan. Possibly one of the only ones to declare it with this Bosox/Amazin's fan infested board. Of course the front offices in the Bronx are going to go after him. The team is going through a rough time. Right now we're relying on Mussina and Wang. Johnson's a mess, Chacon is injured (what else is new this season?), Pavano is going under the knife again, Small has become a spot starter, and Wright has been unreliable though hopefully his last start is the beginning of his turn around. The Yankees bullpen is iffy, though Dotel is (hopefully) on his way back. We all know that the Steinbrenner has the checkbook to pay Clemens the 4 million a month he's been desiring BUT with Johnson falling apart at 41, it'd be such a bad move to take a chance on him and spend 12 million dollars for 3 months. All of this considered, I still think they're SO DESPERATE for starting pitching that they'll reach down into Texas to pick him up and bring him into a league that's difficult to pitch in, while he's been sitting on his ass all spring, and they'll pay him more than anyone else. I, as a fan, DO NOT want him here. Having a guy that's been sitting on his ass all season to COME BACK to a team that he already LEFT so the team can 'rent' him for half a season is absurd. It's time for them to use what they have to get themselves out of this rutt they're in.
As for the Rangers, I'm pretty sure that they're slowly falling out of the running. I don't think they have enough appeal to Clemens. Boston is certainly a possibility. They've been practically lights out so far, but, for Clemens' sake, I think he should re-sign with the Astros. Yeah, they're 5 games back, but his self-proclaimed best friend and work out buddy, Andy Pettitte is there. Clemens also has the option of 'picking and choosing' his way through the 'easier' National League line ups.
