View Full Version : UConn Football Player Killed After On-Campus Stabbing
The starting cornerback for the University of Connecticut football team died on Sunday after an on-campus stabbing just hours after the team's victory over Louisville.
Jasper Howard, 20, was airlifted to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, FOX61 reported.
Howard was reportedly stabbed near the university’s student union at the center of campus at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Messages left for UConn and State Police by Foxnews.com were not immediately returned.
The stabbing allegedly occurred after a University-sponsored dance at the student union. Police said a fire alarm went off at 12:26 a.m., and then a fight between two groups broke out outside of the student union, FOX61 reported.
Police said two people were stabbed there. The second victim was reportedly treated and released from a hospital.
UConn's president Michael Hogan told the Associated Press that the stabbing was a tragedy for the entire university community.

My girlfriend works as an athletic trainer for the football team and I woke up this morning to a text message from her about this. She as well as all my other friends from UCONN are devastated. I also found out later in the day that Jasper Howard was going to be a father as well. They still haven't found the murderer but hopefully the second victim can help identify whoever did this. This is such a tragedy especially after a big win over the weekend. My girlfriend told me last night how she's so happy to go to work on Monday mornings at 7 after a big win on the weekend because everybody is so happy as opposed to a loss. Unfortunately tomorrow will be tough to get through for this team and University and will take some time to heal as a community. My heart goes out to the Huskies. This is a very tragic loss that didn't have to end up like this.

the campus is in such a state of chaos and devastation right now
i was walking by the student union probably like an hour after the events took place and like 20 minutes after i got the news, and it was so eerie just seeing this place where i eat and hang out and stuff covered in yellow tape and crawling with cops, but literally nothing else
i live next door to some of the football players and they have been taking it really hard, my prayers go out to the howard family and the football team
RIP #6

Wow.
One of the sadder bits of news I've dealt with in a while. My dad and I were just talking about the NFL futures of Jasper and a few other players on the UConn defense during the Louisville game on Saturday too. Just incredibly sad and senseless.
RIP Jazz.

this whole story is terrible...really puts life into perspective, that you can go at any time...hopefully the football team will be able to rally behind how seemingly upbeat and good of a kid he was...and hopefully the assholes that were responsible are found immediately.

Tragic news. My prayers go out to the school, the team, and Jasper's family.

Ugh I was a mess during the Outside The Lines thing on ESPN today, especially hearing Tyler Lorenzen start to choke up at the end of his interview. To come from a bad neighborhood in Miami to tiny rural Storrs and become one of the top defensive players in the Big East and still lose your life in such a senselessly violent way is beyond awful. I can't imagine what the Howard family is going through.
Not to mention the team somehow has to play a huge game at WVU on Saturday, but that does not seem to mean as much anymore. It should be beyond emotional to see close to 40,000 people wearing the #6 at the Rent on Oct 31st.
