but now 75% of their fans out there are kids who just started listening when the new album came out, and in my opinion the new album is fucking awful, and rediculously overplayed.

Forget this dull whisper stuff.

I thought the new album was really good, and their live show is still spot on, though they are a little heavier on theatrics and "heeeey-oooohhhh"s. The new kids did kind of put a damper on things, but they will fade. Nothing beats a little Insomniac, Dookie, or Kerplunk! every now and again, though.

but i do agree about American Idiot getting waaay overplayed and about all those kids who just know the new cd. the last Green Day show i went to was almost completely silent when they whipped out an impromptu All By Myself.

Also, when i went to go see the special screening of Bullet in a Bible at a theatre, the 13 year old girls were so fucking annoying about things (like cheering when they showed the footage of their favorite songs, and singing along to them after being told not to sing along) i just wanted to shoot them all in a blind rage.

but, uh, i love my Green Day. i celebrate the first Green Day show i went to every year on June 17th

I've liked this band since I was 13 years. I bought Dookie after hearing Longview on the radio. The band had been around before that, and at the time I was one of "those" kids just getting into them for their new stuff and I'm sure all of the older fans hated people like me. But you know what, I went back and got into the old stuff too, and everything else they've released since.

Now Green Day has gotten huge again and a whole new generation of 13 year olds (and younger, based on some of the people around me at the last GD show I went to). These kids are going to go back and buy all of the older records just like I did years ago.

Personally, I'd much rather they get huge again than pretty much fall off like that other favorite band of mine when I was 13, The Offspring.

I like all there stuff. I even like Shenanigans and warning, though those 2 cds didn't make it very well. And for me now, when people ask do I like the American Idiot GD better or the old GD, its a tie. I love songs from American Idiot and I thought it was purely genuis to make it a rock opera, and i like the older stuff just for the fact that it was the older stuff and it rocked. I laugh at him and just think of the Irony he just stated.
