Alright, so my fiance and my friend both are firm believers in that the US government has in fact found the cure for AIDS and cancer, but are not releasing it because there is so much money for them to be made through taxes from all the hundreds of pills and medicines, medical bills and such that someone with AIDS or cancer needs.

I hadn't heard of this since before the two of them, so I wanted to see if anyone else has heard of it, or has an opinion on it? I can see how someone could be offended, but let's just heard whats up. Respectfully.

A cure for cancer or AIDS would probably be the most valuable commodity one could conceivably create. A company would patent it and make billions upon billions.

Not necessarily.. What kind of "cure" are we talking about? An AIDS vaccine, that could be expensive to make, that needs to be administered to several generations of millions of people? Something that treats a person once they contract it? There's a lot of variables that are somewhat vaccine/cure-specific.

I just have issue with a group that I can't control being responsible for creating these cures. I'd rather it was under the government's charge. There would be no profit-incentive then.

I feel both sides have their equally despicable incentives for altering, skewing, pursuing, or avoiding certain research. I'm not sure there's any correlations between a scientist's moral worth, their scientific merit, and their desire to work in either government or business.

Obviously no one KNOWS the numbers, considering there ISN'T a known cure for AIDS or cancer, but I'm sure you make more money over time just continuously cashing in on peoples medications that help them maintain the disease for awhile, then just giving people a one time shot or however it would come.

1. The one problem with an HIV/AIDS cure or vaccine is that if it gets as simple as something like a morning after pill or a set of shots, some (not all) people will get lazy about protection and probably get reckless.

2. Which government is being discussed? If there was an affordable cure or vaccine, our country wouldnt benefit nearly as much as a dozen other countries with a bigger population infected with aids, so I dont know why our government would even care enough to hide away a cure.

3. Why is it both AIDS and cancer? Cancer seems more fightable than AIDS.
