I am five songs into Ships by Danielson, the 12+ member indie pop family from Clarksboro who have worked with Sufjan Stevens and written 7 albums of electic pop, and I'm in love. I could point fingers in a hundred different directions of artists I'm reminded of on this album, from Animal Collective to Arcade Fire to Modest Mouse at times, but I think it's best you listen for yourself. Ships features collaborations from a total of 20 additional artists, including Sufjan Stevens, Deerhoof, and Why?

Oh yeah. And it's called a gospel album. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I love danielson (and the albums before when they were "danielson famlie") and Ships is a GREAT album. There was recently a documentary about the whole group...you should check that out. Its pretty cool.

Its pretty cool. I may have seen it in the form of a DVD while I was scouting out the album online. They're so quirky with their faith that even though I don't subscribe, I really can't help but admire their vision, haha.

The only Danielson that matters.

Gotta agree with Dr. Acula here. Dude's squeals are terribly irritating.

Danielson is interesting. I think that's the best word. Sometimes too quirky for me. I have to be in the right frame of mind.

I finally got a copy and it's just as catchy as the first time.

hahahaha my god. this album, is something else.

i'll have to listen to it a few more times to really be able to give a comprehensive paragraph, it was so scatterbrained and yet thematic and cohesive that i dont even know where to start. but if i were to make a comparison, it's like ben folds five and bomb the music industry collaborated, to try to write the decemberists' next record for them in a way that fits their aesthetic and the instruments they use (but with more energy and craziness). i also got an arcade fire vibe from some of it just because the sound is so jubilant and it has such a huge group/collective feel to it throughout. and this is a rare occasion where the music is completely sporadic and seemingly disjointed, and yet it remains engaging and somehow keeps a common theme going throughout the entire record without just sounding like aimless noise and self-indulgence. i am completely stunned, perplexed, and flabbergasted by the writing on this record, and even if it doesnt end up becoming a favorite for me, it's still fantastic indie-pop just for the fact of how surprising and distinctive it is.

I don't find his wailing all that annoying.

I didn't even know I had a void where this album should be, but there it was!

Hahaha. I see your love for all things wrestling has taken over quite a few AP threads. I approve.

No, you should hate yourself. Just kidding. But seriously, "Creep" is ace.

Daniel Smith has a gift for melody. And the most annoying voice known to man.

Brother is to Son is probably just below Ships for quality. Decent. Rarely get in the mood for them though.

Much needed bump. Has anyone heard his new album? I just picked up a couple of days ago and am loving it. Maybe the weirdest album he's put out yet but it's so good.

Come on, I know it's been a long time since his last album, but someone else has to be excited this.

I didn't even know it existed until the other day, I was actually planning on checking it out. What's so weird about it?

The first half is pretty straightforward, sounds like a Danielson Famile record, but the second half just gets really loose. A lot of it gets really spacy and the songs have a really loose structure. Also, Jens Lekman and Elin Smith have a duet.

Intriguing. Definitely will listen to it later.

Honestly forgot about this release. I can't even remember the title.

But I will buy it soon if I have enough money!
