Suprised NOFX is doing so bad. I mean, I know their not a band that really goes for mainstream attention- but damn, I thought they had a much bigger cult fanbase than that. I heard somewhere that they've sold over 6 million albums throughout their career.

Ditto. The leak will probably hurt its sales, though. This is just a rough prediction but I'm guessing somewhere between 80-120,000 for the 1st week.

HTL's got old fast for me...and the buzz is gone mostly for them...so I'd expect it to drop off.

why arent people buying jacks mannequin?
Pretty sure they are...it just may not be on the list. With all the WB exposure they got...they've done fairly well I'd imagine. Plus, any SoCo fans.

these three allow me to believe you are

a. an elitist prick
b. an idiot
c. both

Of course, judging off your profile, being a spoiled pretentious prick wouldn't be much of a stretch for your repertoire
Whichever it is...you're inability to see AAR as a decent album, and Kelly Clarkson as an album with the first (is it 5 now) songs being singles...and to be honest, the whole album is good enough to be singles. She is talented as a vocalist, and she has decent writers...it works out. It's no fluke that she is basically the only American Idol still selling a lot.

And Rascal Flatts, I believe, won some country grammies the other day...though I don't follow it closely enough to remember

last time i checked 157,000 is bigger than 82,000.

Although if they count each album sold for rhcp as 2, because it's a double disc, then i am mistaken.

and the all american rejects...i really don't even need to address this.

Anyone who didn't buy the new Ignite cd is a bastard son of a bitch. But seriously, people should check it out if they even remotely like good melodic hardcore/punk, or hell, it even has great rock elements. It quite possibly could be the top of my 2006 list. If you like good music, buy the album.

stick to kicking your shit around THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING NOWHERE, USA. Christina Aguilera sang songs with a voice that in no way matched them...think of Dirty and tell me that her voice, which is suprisingly full and loud anway matches the way that song should be sung...so, no, not a chance in hell I'd defend it.

I was actually thinking about this the other day...Kelly Clarkson may be one of the few pop acts that actually has her voice match her songs. I mean, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, etc...all had good voices, but the music in no way suited it, and to be fair, Mariah Carey most of all makes her songs sound like trash by showing her range.

Kelly Clarkson's songs on the other hand are suprisngly tight in the way they are made...her voice matches the music very well.

But, I guess me being from the middle of nowhere nulls all my arguments...because that makes sense.

And now looking more...please tell me Shining Through is your band...it will make this all so much easier.

i agree with you. kelly clarkson is a good singer. end of story. not to mention she's just so much more respectable and likable as a person in comparison to say a christina aguilera or a britney spears. If there's one pop girl singer that deserves success it is kelly clarkson.

so now that youre done with your detailed history on our country's beautiful pop voices it would be sweet if you would maybe address an issue that is even remotely related to what started this argument...but you wouldnt do something silly like that cause i prettttty much correctly contradicted everything you said.

Kelly Clarkson is freaking amazing. Every single song on Breakaway is good and it deserves all the praise it has received. She could have easily sophomore slumped this out on the heels of a fairly mediocre album and her American Idol win, but she turned out one of the best of 2004 and as lame as it feels to say it, broke away from the standards a lot of people expected her to fall into. So infectious.

That would all actually matter if, IF.........................SHE WROTE THE MUSIC

Hmm, yeah, it does matter because she wrote a lot of the lyrics and she sung all of the songs with her amazing voice and that's just as important as the addictive music from a couple songs. If she did the entire album a cappella, I would still feel the same way. All of that does matter and I never said she wrote the music. I directly referred to the album and she had a lot more to do with Breakaway than her first album, so it is really important to say how significant the improvement is on every aspect and how it came out of nowhere. This isn't some puppet that just anyone could effectively control and sell millions of albums. She knows what she's doing, she had more artistic freedom with Breakaway, and is really good at what she performs.

Best shirt seen at Coachella this year: "I bet you're here to see Tool."

I'm not going to hate.

I just think 10,000 Days is regurgitated and the band as a whole is overrated. Danny Carrey is an amazing drummer, don't get me wrong. Maynard has a great voice. But I find it all a bit pretentious, especially when most Tool fans believe they are on some sort of higher plane of existence because they listen to them.

I fucking hate elitists.

good to see this is hell on the list, though. i'm glad they're doing well.

Not denying she can sing, bu so what? She wrote a word in a song. Shes not a musician

So what? to that. I just said I would still feel the same if she did the entire album a cappela. Quite a few popular artists today aren't "musicians", but they're part of a band that works very well. Her voice is her instrument and she's one of the best at it. No one says Adam Lazzara sucks because he wrote a few TBS words but never plays an instrument and he's no Kelly Clarkson vocally. But he's gritty, emotional, intense, and has a way with the words, so a lot of people love him and the band. Would it make Kelly better if she was the lead singer of a fairly unknown indie/emo band called Lessismore or something? I can't think of an artist better for that material and can bring those words alive so well and be so impactful. They're not the most brilliant words in the word either, but she has a way with them.

hahahha. and it says take your best shot for a reason! i'd really like to hear what you have to say about my band since it would really "make it all so much easier". how about all the rest of you too:

www.myspace.com/shiningthrough (http://www.myspace.com/shiningthrough) musically, you're pretty tight...but in the first two songs, the lyrics made me cringe at points...I can point out specific parts...like "My eyes burn red tonight..." to start things off. Yeah, they are unusually sexualized, but I don't think it's particularly successful.

you want to call Kelly Clarkson...old, regurgitated...yet you place yourself in a constantly recycled genre, and you make little effort to distinguish yourself in it. (Want an example of how to...see The Format's new album). I think with better lyrics and a less whiny singer (especially in "34") you'd have something...but the drawbacks in your band are the common among many pop-punk bands, mediocre lyrics and vocals really. You're not bad...and I don't know how long you've been around...but the right producer could tighten up the little parts more and you'd be better. Actually, I don't know if you posted your band in the Pop forum at all (It's mostly pop-punk), but you should if you haven't, you'd get a broader insight

As for Kelly Clarkson, I think I covered it fairly well. Going into it, you don't expect a large amount of orginality...it's a genre built of cliches usually...but her lyrics and the way they flow with the vocals are actually fairly refreshing for it. I never called her album great...decent lyrics (especially for pop, still mediocre though), good vocals, decent music...overall its' an above average record...and one that remains consistent throughout, which is also suprisingly rare. Those considered, you calling it a fluke and terrible would, in turn, be wrong...

Anything else you want me to answer?

That would all actually matter if, IF.........................SHE WROTE THE MUSIC True there...except name me a pop act that writes their own anything... Now, I'm guessing she had a hand in the writing/direction of the album...especially after previous successful ablums, but I don't know to what extent.

I look at the album in it's genre...and it's heads and tails above the shit that's come from it the last 5 years.

Not denying she can sing, bu so what? She wrote a word in a song. Shes not a musician I really have to say, I fucking hate this part of the argument. So you don't consider any world-class choir to be good, simply because they are reciting composers lines and don't play instruments? I mean, Yo-Yo Ma can play a mean cello, but he can't sing for shit...does that mean he's not great. I don't think it's required of a person to be completely capable in every aspect...though I have more respect for those people that are. I mean, chances are Kelly Clarkson isn't a great writer...but she can fucking sing, and she utilizes that talent

I'm totally with you pal. The Ignite cd is quite possibly one of my favorite releases of 2006.

You need enlightenment as well.... Tool will sell more in the us and its killing it worldwide too, if you count their charts they sold almost 1 mill worldwide so far.. agian if you just listen to the two cds youll know one is just plain amazing and the other is a poppy itunes cd, which is not saying bad just not setting the standard for music right now good, like 10,000 dayswe all know the quality of the cd doesnt determine how well it will sell. plenty of 'poppy itunes cd's" beat out "plain amazing cd's"

What the fuck? I always thought Gnarls Barkley was some shitty experimental grind band like Test Icicles or something. I just listened to it and I think I would like it better if it was just another Cee-Lo album. But it's good. Looking the pictures on the Myspace I remember reading about this group a few months ago.

Yo-Yo plays a Cello. What instrument does Clarkson play? Sucking dick well does not mean she is can play an instrument. Yo-Yo Ma is a musician. Kelly Clakrson is a vocalist.

Umm ok then. Next time Deftones go on tour Chino and Co. will sit in a bus and let some kids who are local and sound close to Deftones play. Who cares if they didnt write it. As long as someone plays it and it sounds good. I mean you just said you didnt care who wrote the song as long as it is performed well to your ears.

If you didnt write the music or have a major hand in wiritng it, I dont want to hear it. We have enough local karaoke. You think Kelly Clarkson is sitting at home penning new tunes right now or while she is on the road? LOL, come on now
