so i'm embarking on a three hour car drive to nassau and back with three friends of mine, and i'm making a six-cd mixtape series for the ride there and back (two groups of three cds). however, i'm not completely familiar with everything each band has to offer musically, and have no idea what to include from whom. i'd like a ratioed mix of everything.
so, does anyone want to help me out?
pick songs from any of the bands playing at nassau (besides brand new, i can do that) that either:
(a) will be played at the show
(b) one of your favorite songs
please specify band and if the song's fast or slow (i'll figure out the album)
if i get enough response, i'll post my tracklisting when i'm finished in a couple days.
a list of the bands playing:
Main Stage:
- Brand New
- Glassjaw
- Thrice
- Manchester Orchestra
- Kevin Devine
Acoustic Stage:
- Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit/Death in the Park)
- Vinnie Caruana (I Am the Avalanche)
- Robbers
- Brian Bonz

Kevin Devine: Brother's Blood, Buried By the Buzz, Time to Burn/Another Bag of Bones, Cotton Crush, Just Stay
Those are all relatively fast and are pretty likely to be played at the show. I've seen Kevin live three times and he's never not played one of those. And Jesse has a vocal track on Cotton Crush, so that's fun.
Thrice: Deadbolt is awesome and fast. And In Exile is one of my favorite songs by them and it's on the new album so I bet they'll play it.

ohhhhmyyyygooodddd. So jealous.
Well, out of all the other bands, the best I know is ManO, so I'd have to say:
-I Can Barely Breathe, Now that you're home, I can feel a hot one, Shake it out, I've got friends, where have you been

I'm very much thinking of making the road trip for this, I mean, it is during break and everything.

Shit, I posted a mega-list in the Brand New thread. But here it is again, in case anyone wants to discuss or edit it:
Kevin Devine:
- Cotton Crush, slow then fast.
- Ballgame, fast
- Just Stay, fast
- Brooklyn Boy, fast
- Heaven Bound and Glory Be, fast-ish
- Afterparty, fast
- Buried By The Buzz, fast
- Tomorrow's Just Too Late, slow-ish
and songs off of Brother's Blood, which I haven't heard yet.
Thrice:
- In Exile
- Beggars, the only slow one
- All The World Is Mad
- The Artist In The Ambulance
- The Melting Point of Wax
- Come All You Weary
- Image of the Invisible
- Red Sky
and others. I'm not too into Thrice right now, but Beggars is amazing.
Manchester Orchestra:
- Shake It Out, fast
- Where Have You Been, fast-ish
- Wolves At Night, fast
- The River, fast
- Now That You're Home, fast
- Colly Strings, slow
- I've Got Friends, fast
- You, My Pride, and Me, fast
- I Can Feel A Hot One, slow
- Everything To Nothing, fast-ish
- Tony The Tiger, fast
Heard they haven't been playing Virgin on this tour, though.
Glassjaw:
- Ape Dos Mil, a slow rock song.. can't explain.
- Pink Roses, fast
- Cosmopolitan Bloodloss, fast
- Siberian Kiss, fast
- Pretty Lush, fast
- Tip Your Bartender, fast
My GJ collection's pretty limited.
Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit acoustic):
All of Sorry About Tomorrow or The Underground Is A Dying Breed is fair game.
I'm not sure what he'll be playing since HRC has broken up.. :(

How do you not have Brother's Blood?
I don't really know. I'm downloading it now, though, so the situation shall be remedied.
Is it good? I love his past stuff.

glassJAw's best song is The Snow Veil, but i dunno if they still play that old of stuff.
they'll probably play Cosmopolitan Bloodloss, Ape Dos Mil, Gilette Cavalcade of Sports, and You Think You're John F***ing Lennon

You NEED to put "Anything Left" by Manchester on there, fast and impossibly catchy.

Cool, thanks for reminding me to get it.
Ah, I went through a phase where I considered "Longer That I'm Out Here" one of my favorite songs. Still do, but back when it first came out, it was constantly on repeat.

Probably my favorite of his.
On Topic: I Was a Lid is a really great song by Manchester Orchestra though it probably won't be played since it wasn't on a full album.

for thrice, pick any song off the live dvd, and you got a chance to hear it. Glassjaw, look for videos on youtube. the regular videos are a good place to start, but try to find "john fucking lennon". everyone else is their expertice.

Why do you want only bands playing?...does your car stereo play mp3 discs? if it does you can make a data disc with like 150 songs on it.

Glassjaw: tip your bartender, pink roses, the gillette cavalcade of sports, pretty lush, siberian kiss, hurting and shoving, lovebites and razorlines, and when eight becomes two zeros. Most are pretty fast songs. I tend to enjoy their heavier/faster matieral though.
depending on the length of their sets, here are the songs MO and kevin are most likely to play:
mo:
the river
mean everything to nothing
the only one
shake it out
pride
my friend marcus
golden ticket
now that you're home
where have you been
wolves at night
i've got friends
the neighborhood is bleeding
kd:
cotton crush
ballgame
brooklyn boy
brother's blood
another bag of bones
just stay
no time flat
yr damned ol dad
you'll only end up joining them
go haunt someone else
carnival
it's only your life
manchester's set might actually be skewed more toward METN, though.

i want to go an old-school route with some mix cds...like 20 songs a piece, whatever fits in 80 minutes, and switch it up when the song ends. color me nostalgic, i guess. i have an ipod and the songs are going to start as an imix, but i want to retrograde it.

Glassjaw: pretty lush, tip your bartender, Mu empire, Radio Cambodia, Ape dos mil, when eight becomes two zeros, siberian kiss, pink roses
Vinnie Caruana: i took a beating, symphony, brooklyn dodgers, green eyes, clean up, 10 seconds too late, walking on glass, sailor tattoos
last 3 are movielife songs that Vinnie usually plays on his acoustic sets only

Listen to Robbers. Eager is easily their best song, but Stay together and I stole are right up there.
If you haven't heard them you're committing a grave injustice.

brian bonz! he's so much fun.
my favorite songs from him are probably judy & the alpha queen, kid shit, christa mccauliffe's cacophony, and dee the dinosaur. they're all pretty upbeat.
robbers are also awesome - i'd say listen to eager, i stole from my own flesh and blood, and stay together.
