Apparently, this guy (http://www.idontlikeyouinthatway.com/2006/05/pete-wentz-is-has-tool.html) doesn't realize the new Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy (http://www.absolutepunk.net/falloutboy)) "n00dz" are a promotional add for The Hush Sound (http://www.absolutepunk.net/thehushsound)'s new album, Like Vines. Either way, if you haven't seen the ad yet, you can check it out there.

Um, that doesn't mean he realize it's an ACTUAL promotional ad. He thinks that he just took more pics with the CD hoping it'd get out (based on the way he talks, phrases things, etc.) For example, "clearly he intended for these to get out..." Well, duh, they're advertisements! That's what leads me to believe the guy didn't really get it.

That's weird, I usually love products with silly/ridiuclous advertisements. Either way, people like that really bug me because it's such ridiculous thinking. Why take a chance on missing out on a record you might possibly love just because you don't like the ad? I'd never refrain from trying a beer or establishment just because they have ads I find to be stupid.

not necessarily. there are definitely people who are turned off by certain advertisements right off the bat that actually swear off the product that is being promoted. such as a racist or sexist ad (none come to mind right now)...because obviously people don't like the association that is being made in the advertisement. sometimes ads like that do the exact reverse intention, instead of wanting them to buy it (by having some athletle endorse the product), sometimes it backfires and the association just isn't cool anymore. i don't have any off the top of my head, but i have heard of actual instances. its ridiculous yes, but not unheard of.

:shrugs: It's bad publicity, I think. Tongue in cheek or not, someone who doesn't know the whole ordeal might be offended. And even someone who might know the ordeal just might think it's ridiculous.
I mean, there's only two ways it can go. An add that extreme, for lack of a better term, will either draw people in or push people away. I can't stand the "Destroy Corporate Rock" adds for all of the Victory Records bands, so I just won't give them the time of day. This could be the same way.

And what I was trying to say earlier was that I'd rather not have people like that listening to the Hush Sound. They should stick to Ashley Parker Angel or some other crap and leave the good music to those who won't judge its artistic integrity on ONE obviously tongue-in-cheek, flippant ad.

how is it a bad marketing campaign? it takes an existing pop-culture "phenomenon" and turns it on its head, exploiting its controversy for a positive use in promoting an album. Its nearly a textbook example of viral marketing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing), and what people like that homophobic trash-talker at IDLYITW, as you affectionately call it, don't get is that writing about it and re-posting the pictures is exactly the type of response that is expected and they're actually helping out the ad/album/band they're mocking by exposing many people to it who would otherwise probably be completely unaware.
Um, that doesn't mean he realize it's an ACTUAL promotional ad. Yeah, not everyone obsesses all day over bands that are really lame and the Fred Durst's that signed them, so yeah, he probably just plain doesn't get it.

No, its called overexposing yourself, when people already think you're really dumb. Its also called hogging the spotlight and using your band's print ad to revel in some retarded inside joke. The sad thing is that kid's might actually buy more cds because of this, which really is a shame.

it would be good marketing, except for the fact that a large portion of the FBR listening population is preteens, and I dont know how many preteen parents enjoy their kids checking out ads with a dude covering his dong with a cd case

I would say that a significant portion of FOB's listening population is preteens, but that very few of them could tell you what label that band is on/has been on, what Fueled By Ramen is, and that the only other bands on that label they could name are P!ATD and The Academy Is... and probably couldn't tell you what record label they're on. And this ad obviously wasn't targeted at those kids anyway, given its adult content, and most of them probably wouldn't "get it" anyway.

I actually think Pete is a normal human being, hence the reason I find it strangely odd that you obsess over something such as his pictures and/or this promotional campagin. Maybe there's a deep dark secret within you that you're trying to keep buried tight and quiet so no one ever knows...
I'm sorry I find it ridiculous that so many people, including yourself, find the need to attack, hate, etc. a person you've never met; god forbid I'd want to defend a friend that gets a ton of unnecessary grief, right? I defend anyone I'm related to, close to, cool with, etc.

Haha. I hope you realize Fall Out Boy is by no means my favorite band, or even in my top ten. I don't know why I feel the need to explain, but whatever. I own both records, yes, and I thoroughly enjoy both. Yes, I'm also good friends with Pete. Now, I don't know why me defending my friend (like I'd do for any of my friends) means I have to have a "shrine." I don't mean to be picking on Jared or whoever this Finch guy is, but I think we can all agree, whether we're absolute best friends and blood brothers for life with Pete or not, that he's acting like a tool.

Whether or not you like Pete or Fall Out Boy is not the issue. The ad only leads to stories about the original pictures that someone "hacked" from his sidekick. And that leads to me seeing his junk, which I have no interest in seeing. I am sure parents don't want their kids seeing that either.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers posed for Rolling Stone with just their hands over their units. Fortunately that didn't lead to me seeing any pictures of Flea's jimmy.

I won't blame him at all, in fact i laud him adamantly. I thought the ad was hilarious and a great way to make fun of a situation people are STILL talking about and get people to talk about the ad (thus spreading it around) and consequently the album.
And what I was trying to say earlier was that I'd rather not have people like that listening to the Hush Sound. They should stick to Ashley Parker Angel or some other crap and leave the good music to those who won't judge its artistic integrity on ONE obviously tongue-in-cheek, flippant ad.
Does anyone else think that Pete Wentz looks like Billy Zane?
yes and yes.

I got here fashionably late....
REGARDLESS... of how humorous he finds it, and how much attention he knows it will get, I have seen Pete Wentz on numerous occasions acknowledge that a huge portion of FOB's audience is under age. Therefore he knows full well that they are going to see this and that's just a bit wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think it's funny and I admire him for taking the piss out of himself but he has a responsibility not to do things like that. Did he ask for underage fans? Probably not, but he has them and should act accordingly. Now .. this is weird for me to say this because I've always been of the "I hope the bands I like are crude, loudmouth rockstars" persuasion but...... at some point you have to realise you have to act responsibly when there's kids involved.
