In the latest addition of the AP, they ranked the Top 100 singles of the '00s. I want your opinion on which of the Top 10 songs is the best.

I went with "The Middle". That song was massive across multiple radio formats, cracked the TRL countdown, I still hear it everywhere, and I can still listen to it when I hear it and don't automatically turn it off because I've gotten sick of it.

They put The Postal Sevice and Dashboard Confessional, but not '' At Your Funeral''?

Anyone else think Dance Dance was a better single than Sugar?

And surely of My Chem songs, you'd put Welcome To The Black Parade?

Personally I prefer Sugar..never really liked Dance Dance

And according to the article Helena and I'm Not Okay were the songs that propelled MCR to stardom...the Black Parade was like 40-something on the list

Fair enough. Black Parade was a better and more popular song though. Got a link to the article?

I don't...the magazine I just got yesterday, so I doubt the list will be up on their site for a few weeks

It was really close between Sweetness and Sugar, but I chose Sugar, just because I think it was that song/video that got them where they are today.

is it weird that this list made me cry a bit....this was MY decade....and it's coming to an end. i get choked up easily.

- cute without the e
- sugar we're going down
- such great heights

are the only acceptable answers. not only are these the most important singles of the decade (for their respective genres)...but they're still catchy, fun, and listenable today. They're easily on my top 20 songs list of songs that defined the 00's no doubt about it.

umm at your funeral had absolutely no radio play and has no mainstream pull what so ever.

In the US, Welcome To The Black Parade peaked at #9 on the charts and is certified platinum. Helena peaked at #33 and I'm Not Okay (I Promise) only made it to #86.

by that logic "the bird and the worm" is a more popular song than "taste of ink", the TBS song "liar" is more popular than "cute without the E"

cute without the e is the song that got me into the ap.net type of music, which includes pretty much all the other bands except atdi, which i still haven't listened to yet.

hmm now that I think back, the track that got me into this "type" of music would have to be "Take It Away" by the Used. I remember seeing the video, then grabbing their album, then grabbing the rest of their albums and liking the first one the most, then finding a ton of new artists related to them through this site.

I actually think Alt Press got the #1 single right in One Armed Scissor.
Actually, I was really surprised that I agree with a lot of the list. Not necessarily the order/rankings of the songs. But a lot of songs that should be on there are. The most notable lack of a band is Thrice, in my opinion.

And Ben Gibbard really owned this decade.

"At Your Funeral" was 15. Seems like a pretty good spot for it to me. While it is a great, great song, it wasn't a huge hit. And this list does take mainstream popularity into account with influence too.

Surprising. I voted Screaming Infidelities and it's way far behind. Definitely didn't think TBS would be winning.

Fall Out Boy is my favorite of this list, but honestly one of the JEW tracks should win

The majority of the singles on that list came out before that song did.

I would give Blink and Jimmy Eat World that credit of cracking the mainstream. Fall Out Boy just swooped in after and became the first explosion after a few other bands paved the way for them.

While I would agree with Blink cracking the mainstream, JEW didn't even enjoy a fraction of the success Fall Out Boy has had. Or maybe I was too young to remember hahaha.
