Being a diehard Cleveland fan this series is bittersweet to me. Especially game 1. Two former Cleveland Cy Young winners battling it out. Very happy for them though as they're at a place the Tribe won't be at for a long time. Hopefully the Phils beat the piss out fo the Yankees though.

And you think the Phillies can get past Sabathia? The Phillies only have half a line-up that can hit like the Yankees, and the Yankees bullpen is deeper and stronger. I would never trust Lidge after going from a great season with the Astros, to a really shitty, needed to be traded from the Astros season, to a perfect season last year, to a really shitty season this year. WOW he pitched against the Rockies against and the Dodgers who pretty much fucked themselves. And yes, I'm for the Yankees.,

Their irresponsible spending has ultimately destroyed many baseball franchises....and the course of the league forever. Due to their increased spending...other teams were forced to try and spend at a somewhat reasonable pace as well, and what this does in general is it raises ticket prices, makes baseball players stupidly rich, and creates the most un-fair uncompetitive balance in all of sports. And with this irresponsible spending, it has killed franchises like the blue jays/orioles who will never be able to compete in a division like the AL east. I applaud the Rays for their awesomely fluke season...but it will never be duplicated because the Rays will soon see that they can't afford all their top players, because the players will opt out to go to franchises who can spend more.

I understand that everything they do are by the rules of baseball, and that's fine....but I think the yankees are accountable for disrupting the flow of mlb forever. The yankees will never not win 85+ games...EVER...ever ever ever ever...and that's stupid. It's not even fun.

Please excuse the Yankees for being a very successful franchise, this argument is so ridiculous. What do you want them to do with the success they've had and the money they've made? Have they paid some players more than they should've? Probably yes. But they have the money, and they can do what they want with it. It's a business these days and they're very good at what they do both on the field and off it.

so because the yankees have made so much money because of their success and loyal fan base, they shouldnt be allowed to spend their money? dont be pissy at the yankees for there being no salary cap in the sport, blame Major League Baseball. Every other franchise would do this if they had the money and the success. The Mets and the Red Sox are in 2nd and 3rd place in team salary, the mets are just terrible at spending their money and the red sox werent good this year. Ill say this again, i think most hate for the yankees comes out of pure jealousy. People need to understand that professional sports is a business, every team tries to act the same way.

when you win world championships, people want to see your championship team, thus they come to the ballpark and spend money on tickets, souvenirs, jerseys, food, etc. the yanks use that money to buy better players (which probably wasnt the case in the 20's and 50's, they just happened to be great) but nowadays seeing as the yanks have won so many championships at this point, and people all around the globe travel to see the yankees, making the yankees rich and SUCCESSFUL.

other idiot fans dont realize that its a business, and business is fucking GREAT. people come see our winners, we make money and buy more winners, its a great cycle, jesus fenway couldnt even fill up before this decade and now they think they are great because they pack the house every night, maybe if they werent dumb enough to charge next to nothing for tickets (i knew people who saw the 2007 world series for 10 dollars). and maybe if they didnt have that stupid wall in their left field (which maybe contributed to the reason they didnt win for 86 years....hello you idiots are the ones who play there more than anyone else so why would you stop yourselves from scoring) when easily they could fit thousands of more seats and generate more profit but nope, they just want to keep it the way it is and so be it.

the yankees are allowed to do whatever they want with the money they EARNED. its all fair game even if you think its not because they buy great players, they earned the right to be able to buy them because they are a successful business.

That's exactly it, jealousy. People will try and deny that and say, oh i would never be jealous of a greedy team who buys their championships and all that bullshit but it's the truth. If the Yankees wanna spend hundreds of millions of dollars on players then they have every right to, they've earned this money. It's annoying to read the arguments of stupid opposing fans but you just have to laugh it off.

As a die hard yankees fan, i just don't understand why there are so many yankee haters out there. The yankees are a successful team because they actually invest money back in their team because they want it to be successful, not only for themselves, but also for their fans. They're one of the few teams in any sport that understand that a team lives and dies by the support of their fans, and they want to reward the fans' generosity. So what if they spend more money than the other teams to make that happen? They also pay millions of dollars each year into the luxury tax, and many owners of other teams would rather pocket that money and complain about not being able to be competitive instead of reinvesting that money in the team. It's not like all of these teams are financially struggling either. In fact, the marlins, who consistently have one of the lowest payrolls in the league and consistently are known for cost-cutting, are actually the most profitable team in the league. Believe it or not, the yankees actually lose money every year fielding a competitive team. Despite all this, it doesn't mean that all the big spending teams will be the ones consistently making the playoffs. I think the rays proved last year that any team has a fair chance of making the playoffs. If spending money guaranteed victory, then why do teams in salary cap controlled leagues always win? why did the patriots win 3 super bowls in 4 years? why do teams like the spurs and lakers always make the playoffs? why are the red wings consistently one of the best teams in the NHL? it can't be because they spend more money than everyone else. The bottom line is that it doesn't matter how much money you spend, you have to spend it smartly, and the yankees are one of the few teams that understand that.
