Lets start off by stating your name and you do in More Amor.
My name is Tom and I sing, play guitar, and write hymns alongside two other adventurers.
Can you give a brief history of your band for the people who might not be familiar with you guys?
More Amor started as Kyle and I leaving our previous bands wanting to start something fun with no limits. We wanted to write music that the both of us could enjoy without band opinions, actually without any opinions. We made a record for us and spent the last year or so just enjoying that record and growing as musicians . Now we added another amigo named Rami Jrade who we have been friends with for years to add some excitement and new ideas to our second go round. We all have been living in NYC for the last few months enjoying the big apple writing our next record to record at the end of the year.
How would you describe your music?
I think our first record was somewhere along the lines of pop electronic with harmonies on every word, but the new songs we are working on range from everywhere. We have got into so many different bands, songs, feelings this past year and it's all spilled into notes on new paper. We definitely want the new record to be more organic sounding with natural instruments but still have some of that first record electronic feeling as well. The harmony between kyle and I will also never die. We've started to learn more about our voices and have been using them in strange ways with the new songs. Maybe it's the mustaches.
How is this music different from your work in previous bands?
It's just music that we really enjoy writing and playing. I know it sounds different but its hard to pinpoint why it's different. It just feels better and more natural, more meaningful. I care more about what I say with these lyrics versus what I used to write for my old band. We've just grown up a lot in the past years and I believe each song is reflected by that lyrically and musically.
How has the self-titled album been received by your fans?
I think the few fans that have heard it think it's great. We have 5 stars on itunes, it may have only been reviewed by some odd people on there but everyone likes it, which rules. I think if people got to hear it, it could have done well for us, but timing is so important to us with this project that it's kinda sweet that the few fans we got from it had a special year with us.
When are you guys going to start playing shows again?
Lets shoot for early next year, once we get the new record done, the songs all together and a basic idea of how we want to perform, then practice all of that so it's really good, we will hit a stage near you.
And are you planning to get a backing band?
We are gonna get a band together when the record is done. We definitely want a live drummer and some keys and a bassist or anybody to help with any awesome musical magic for when we perform. We played 5 shows with Kyle and I and it was like karaoke. It was so boring with one guitar and backing tracks. It felt and sounded so inadequate and looking back it's kind of embarrassing to anybody who saw us, but kinda awesome at the same time to know that it will never happen again. We're gonna do it right this time and hopefully when we play live again it will really impress people. I want people to leave a more amor show inspired, not just another typical performance watching hair and guitars swing and sloppy music being performed.
When is the new album being released?
We're thinking early next year, probably late feb early march, it just depends on what happens.
Is there a prevalent theme on the album?
not more amor anymore.
Will you guys be releasing this on your own again? Or will you guys try to get a label involved?
We're gonna do it on our own again but with a lot more happening for the record as far as media goes, spend some of our own money to give it a real shot. I don't think you need a label anymore to succeed in this world. We're gonna put it out with a team of people who know what to do with a good song and a good record and go from there. If some label is in love with it and can take us to the next level without taking our lives then we shall have that discussion when that discussion is to be had.
