Finland ranks highest in economic growth, personal freedom, and democracy. I guess the Glen Becks and the Bill O'Reillys of the world might be disappointed that United States is ranked 9th.

i'm infatuated with sweden.
I have family who lives in Sweden (I don't have any Swedish blood, though) so I get to visit them in Stockholm every once in a while. I've been e or 4 times in my life, and I have to say that it is an awesome place. Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance. Plus, literally almost every girl there is crazy good looking. It's insane, I don't know how they do it.
EDIT: I think these videos are awesome (Sorry, I don't know how to embed the Daily Show).

everything i ever read about sweden, every picture i ever see, i love. their government in a lot of ways is like the model of what's most conducive to my interests, as well. plus theyve got actually a pretty damn good music scene for a country you wouldnt expect to make such contributions to western music as a whole -- in fact at my radio station, someone has a show that plays exclusively swedish pop and their idea of pop music is so much better than ours haha. i really do want to spend a few months or even a year there someday.
The Scandinavian countries are usually on top of lists like these.

Speaking of Sweden and music, I remember reading an article (I think it was in Spin) about how they are one of the largest exporters of music in the world, and how their government actually sponsors a lot of music and art stuff. My uncle was actually a musician when he moved to Sweden. After a while he stopped performing and began translating between English and Swedish for songs, books, and the like, and more recently has been working as a translator for the Swedish government. From what I've heard from discussion when we see our Swedish family, there are definitely some flaws (I can't remember specifics right now), but overall they are very happy with it. The one thing that must suck for kids though is that alcohol is crazy expensive (at least in Stockholm, I don't know if it's nationwide). I remember being on vacation and my cousin wanting to buy some Smirnoff Ice type stuff from the hotel bar and having to pay a good amount of money haha.

They're both pretty flawed, I like the US structure better than the UK's though. I am a little surprised by that ranking though. I blame Chavs.

Our government has monopoly on alcohol so we can only by it at a special store, and it's closed on weekends. That sucks really hard.

I bet it's that new right to Internet they have.
The Scandinavian countries are usually on top of lists like these.
They also top lists for suicide. It's a give and take.

Some of the statistics they use for this are pretty outdated...for example, the US's overview page lists unemployment at 5%.
