View Full Version : MJ This is It
Wanted to know what everyone thought of Michael Jackson's This is It. I saw it last night, and I really liked it. But I'm also a huge MJ fan, I don't think the general public would be able to enjoy the movie. You'd easily get bored watching it if you don't like his music.
It was a very interesting look into concert production. As someone very interested in the concert industry, it was good to see how things work behind the scenes and getting to learn how some things are done.
The soundtrack was good, although they skipped over some of the songs that were to be in the setlist and they don't show the full songs. It's clearly a rehearsal but the magic is still there.
If you've seen it already, what did you think? Don't turn this into an "I hate MJ" thread. I appreciate the man for the music he made and the things he did for the music, concert, & film industry, not for his personal life or whatever may or may not have happened.

I highly doubt this would turn into a "I hate MJ" thread. Haven't seen it...I probably will when it drops on dvd or when it's aired on TV, though.

True, but after how much money they lost on the canceled concerts, it's almost hard to blame anyone.

its really just an attempt to make bank as quickly as possible. i hope they are actually planning on giving him a real respectable movie, a really nice biopic that truly explores the man, instead of this quickly arranged assortments of unreleased footage, but well see.

Yes, the motive behind the studio releasing the movie was to make money. But the reason Kenny Ortega made the movie was for his own personal fulfillment and for the fans. It was a good movie, like I said hard to sit through if you don't like MJ's music because that's pretty much the focus of the movie.

The guy was insanely talented, and wasn't convicted of anything... I don't understand the hate.
I don't think I'll be seeing it unless the lady friend wants to though.
righhhhhttt.
Why would you say that? The only people making money off of this film is the Jackson estate, they get 90% of the profits. The other 10% goes to Sony. So Kenny Ortega is not making millions off of this film. He is a very busy man with a lot of projects on his plate. I don't see how Ortega's motivation to make this film was because of money.

hope no one falls for the "we're not releasing this movie on DVD" claims too..

As opposed to all those other motives big movie studios have when it comes to releasing movies. I don't see what the big deal is with this movie being released. It gives people an inside look to what MJ's final tour would have been like. Call it capitalizing on his death, but I'm sure the fans don't mind dropping coin on it.
I was supposed to be seeing this tomorrow night, but the person who I was going with changed his mind because of an exam. He's a big MJ fan and really looking forward to it, so I'm thinking this weekend. I'm interested to see it on a nice big screen.

about cashing in on his death, sure, but not caring about his music for the last 20 years? Come on man. You're an idiot if you think no one cared about Michael Jackson's music in the last 20 years. And his post before was just as idiotic:

When this tour was announced, I was so excited about the possibility of a Michael Jackson return. While it was only supposed to be in London, I was hoping it would be a huge success (which, with around million tickets selling in a day I think, it was clear that it would be), that possibly they would take the shows Stateside someday. I thought I'd finally get the chance to see the man who got me into music as a child live for the first time.
Of course, we all know that none of this would come to fruition. This movie was a chance for fans to see what went into the production of what could have possibly been one of the best shows of all time. It showcased all of the raw talents of Jackson, and how he was truly in his element when he was onstage. Seeing how much he (seemed to) enjoy being onstage and how much he put into it was great, and I ended up liking this film more than I thought I would.

1. While I'm not going to deny he had some strange and very inappropriate interactions with children, nor would I go as far as saying he didn't molest any children, he was never convicted of anything. Also, some have even admitted to jumping on that accusation bandwagon in order to cash in. So, no, he was not a "known" pedophile.
2. No one cared about him for the past 20 years? That might be one of the most moronic things I've ever heard/read. If you had said the last decade, you might have had an argument in regards to the general public and media, but there has always been an abundance of MJ fanatics.
3. The purpose of the film was to make up for the fact the tour, obviously, wouldn't be happening. Of course it's going to make money and that's why a studio would release it, but in the end it was for closure for the players involved and the fans.

yeah i should have said 10 or 15 years. but still, ever since he died everyone is freaking out and talking about how they have always been a huge fan of his. its just another stupid trend where 90% of the people who claim to be fans are full of shit and are just going along with whats popular
what the fuck dude
what? its true. people are exploiting this guy like crazy now that he is dead and people suddenly think they care about him again. he was a fucked up person who did some pretty terrible things
