So I recently got into a lot of psychedelic bands from the '60s like 13th Floor Elevators, Golden Dawn, Day Blindness, Red Krayola, Tangerine Zoo, Chocolate Watch Band, and a few others, like, to a lesser extent Love who sort of fit in. I was wondering, what are some of your favorites from this style of music, whether it be from an era past or newer bands that fall into this genre?

Sleepy Sun are great, They released their debut, Embrace, this year on ATP records which is also the same label that Fuck Buttons are on
Really good guitar lead psychedelic music with progressive influences

Today, I've listened to:
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band -- Trout Mask Replica
The Mothers of Invention -- Freak Out!
Silver Apples -- Contact
All of which, I would recommend.

I'll definitely check all of these out. Any other suggestions would be great. I'd higly recommend checking the ones I mentioned out too. Some great tunes there. Particularly Golden Dawn's Power Plant, Tangerine Zoo's self-titled, and 13th Floor Elevator's Psychedelic Sounds.

Oh and Love's Da Capo is an awesome album.
I don't know much about this genre at all, but does The Flaming Lips count? Or Black Moth Super Rainbow?
That's some modern stuff I listen to that might fit in that category. I guess Animal Collective would, too.. I'd like to get into some older stuff, though.

:hitself:. I definitely listen to some psychedelic I guess; Pink Floyd is an obvious choice for an older band haha.

Yeah it's really funny. I think Motorhead covered some of their songs.

I'm jut going to post links, mods/staff tell me if I should take them down but it's all fairly obscure shitty music so.

compilation of extremely rare '67 to '74 South American, Indian, and Turkish psychedelic songs. Lots of fuzz, wah, delay, world instrumentation, and amazing drumming. Get it.

Some truly psychedelic stuff here off of a very obscure 45 from the 60's psychedelic band, The Beautiful Daze. Pretty crazy guitar sounds on here for 1967. Not sure if it's just the recording, but some of the guitar parts on here sound almost shoegaze-ish (more noisy shoegaze). Long sustain on the ultra-fuzz and maybe a little reverb. Anyways, B side is the instrumental half to the A side. Keep in mind this is 1967. Crazy. Enjoy.

But anyway, there is a lot more 'curent" stuff too that I can't post links to, but stuff isn't hard to find.

Donovan's later music is some of the best psychedelic rock out there. His earlier is some of the best folk music too, so check out both.
I love The Beatles psychedelic era as well.

Hmmm, calling Circa Survive psychedelic is like calling the Smashing Pumpkins a hardcore band. You'd have to stretch the genre so widely just to vaguely hear it in the band's music.
This is more psychadelic electronica but Schpongle is great, so is Efterklang. Don't hold me on the spelling of either of those acts.

william doyle isnt psychedelic. but he IS an 18 year old kid who had influence from somewhat psychedelic bands!
if you're looking for authentic psychedelia then this rec probably isnt for you, but if you're open to hearing a few of those components in the production mixed in with several other things, you should check out his album born in the USB.
oh, and dont judge him by his age. the only way you may be able to tell is through his voice. the music he makes is indisputably beyond his years.

If you've never heard A Trip to Marineville by Swell Maps, check it out. It's not from the same era as the bands in the op, and it's more of mix between psychedelic and post-punk, but it's definitely worth looking at.

ever seen em live? i first got into them back in february of this year, then saw them in june in denton, tx. it was amazing.
the show was packed. waited outside for an hour to get in, and ended up with the best spot in the venue to watch. encored with Forever Heavy with extra craziness thrown in the middle.

I wish I could see them live. That would be epic. But no, unfortunately I havent been able to see them yet. Forever Heavy with EXTRA craziness? Seems almost impossible. You would probably enjoy Neon Indians as well. I actually just found them last night, but theyre awesome. Grizzly Bear is my favorite band of all time, and theyre psychedelic without the electronicness, so you could check them out too.
