It's about that time of year when I break out my Low records. For those new to them, this Duluth outfit churns out some of the best, regrettably dubbed, slowcore around. Simply gorgeous tunes that reward your patience. Discuss, discover, whatever.

Their holiday covers are quite nice as well.

I've been meaning to grab The Great Destroyer for quite some time now. I haven't heard a lot of them, but When I Go Deaf is a fantastic song and has definitely piqued my interest.

I've heard a lot of good things about them, should give them a listen.

The Great Destroyer is probably their worst effort. I'd start with Things We Lost In The Fire.

If The Great Destroyer were sub par though, I'd still give their other albums a shot. I will keep that in mind however, thanks.

I was going to ask where to start, but looks like you already answered that. I'm enjoying the songs on their MySpace.

Love love love this band, also the best part of Low:

Low are known for their impressive live performances. Rock club audiences sometimes watch the band while seated on the floor. During their early career, the band often faced unsympathetic and inattentive audiences in bars and clubs, to which they responded by bucking rock protocol and turning their volume down.

Yeah, everyone sat the two times I saw them. Was pretty neat.

For those interested in Retribution Gospel Choir, they're a fair deal louder than Low just so you know what you're getting into. Debut was produced by Kozelek too I believe.

I'm a big point of disgust fan. Can't remember where i first heard it though. that's the only song i know. Is it on a soundtrack or something maybe?

I have Drums and Guns and listened to it once. I hadn't a clue if I enjoyed it or not. I never returned to it. I suppose I should.

I've listened to Drums and Guns and I quite enjoy it, but I've never really checked out anything else in their catalog.

Give the first two full-lengths (I Could Live In Hope and Long Division) a try, Todd.

That particular track's on Trust. Not their finest, but a decent record.

Definitely do so.

drums and guns was a bit of a let-down, although live it is amazing. I know a lot of folks in Duluth weren't down with it, but that's what made it interesting for myself

A letdown after The Great Destroyer, really? I thought it was a pleasant return to form.

Bump-diddley-doo.

I listened to Things We Lost in the Fire today at work. Every time I listen to this album, I like it a lot. Why I've listened to it start to finish only about four times is beyond me.

So had I, until I stumbled up Low in my library the other day. I need to check out more of their material when I get the chance.

doing exactly this right now. the music is as beautiful and patiently compelling as i'd imagined it to be so far.

Things We Lost in the Fire is pretty sweet. In the two or three months since this was last bumped, though, I still haven't checked anything else of theirs out.

Nice to see a bump, but it's way too nice out for Low.
