So I just found out about this little phrase, and am amusing myself at how well it explains things:

A person that may or may not be hot, but is the most attractive person in the set of people you work with so you lust after him/her.

It describes my workmate (well, how I feel about my workmate) to a tee. She's plain plain plain, I wouldn't ever pick her out in a crowd. But she's around my age, and female. And when you're in an office for eight hours a day where everyone else is at least middle aged and slightly overweight, then this girl becomes a relative sex bomb.

Strange how you can start to lust after someone just by them being the hottest person at the time. I figure this is how most office relationships start. Out of a skewed perception of attraction caused by boredom and desperation.

Discuss: Workmates you want to bang only during your shift, who then become invisible to you when you go outside and see dozens of more attractive people.

I work in a kitchen and most of the servers are "work hot" when they are out in the restaurant (in the dark) but when they come into the kitchen under the bright lights I lose most attraction haha

This is true but would also apply to "seminar hot", "public transport hot" etc. There needs to be a catch-ll phrase that describes attraction to someone because they are the best of what is available

bill simmons coined this term (or something similar, I think he used the term "press box hot") a while ago. I remember him using it when I read his column, which was several years ago. around '04-'05 I believe.

I like this phrase a lot, however, when I was working at Gap most of the girls I worked with were absolutely stunning, not just work hot but... day to day hot? That doesn't seem an adequate antonym. What would be the antonym? I guess just straightforward hot would do.

Haha, I definitely know about the work hot thing. There's this guy that I would never find attractive anywhere else, but for some reason I'm extremely attracted to him...don't know what it is. hahah, I never had any "work hot" co-workers. However I used to use that type term for customers that'd come in. I was always so used to old creepy men coming in that when any boy around my age and at least semi decent looking would come in I'd be like ohay you're cute when in reality outside of my environment at work I wouldn't look twice. Now however I don't pay attention at all since I luckily have myself a boy that is way above work cute, oyaaaa.

I'm familiar with teacher hot. In high school we had this one 20 year old teacher. Really plain, but every guy thought she was hot, because, well, she wasn't old. This year I have a professor who ordinarily, whatever, but since he's a professor and kind of young and decent looking, I find him hot. This is such a true word.
