So a bunch of friends of mine and I have rented a cabin in mid November just to get some R&R. I have been charged with the task of providing the music for the weekend. This is 8 people with 8 different tastes of music (though we all kind of stay within the indie/alternative/rock/punk genre).
Currently I am building two playlists, one for when we are just hanging out, and one for when we are partying. I am trying to add "universally liked" songs. I have a lot of Iggy Pop, Muse, Ramones, Sunny Day Real Estate etc... I am trying to make a good "background noise" collection of songs where the song is just setting the mood and you don't really care what the song is, just that the vibe is right.

Anyways, I need suggestions of good songs for hanging out and partying. Please no modern pop punk. If you have some good indie, dancy music that I may not have heard of that would be awesome. Also good folky Bob Dylan esque stuff. Older stuff too, alternative and punk from the 70's 80's and 90's.
Thanks everyone, I can't wait to see what people suggest!

You think so? I was going to put some of his stuff on there but I thought it was a little too slow...song suggestion?
Thanks!

I really just figured with the whole story behind For Emma, Forever Ago, that it fits the situation if not the mood. If you want something a bit less slow..."Blood Bank" maybe?

I like your playlist a lot. Found a lot of great bands I had never listened to before.

Try Straylight Run? Songs like The Words We Say. The Miracle that Never Came, Take it to Manhattan...I know they're more mainstream but you might not have heard of them anyway.
