& by good I mean skilled, creative, etc. (i.e. objectively good)
inspired by the "if you don't like a band, could you still acknowledge that they're good? " thread.

I say yes.

absolutely. the level of enjoyment? that's debatable.

i imagine most people would agree, especially if it is nostalgic.

I guess so. I'm trying to think of an example though.....

yeah man. lots of punk bands that aren't that incredibly talented that i love. blink without travis isn't really that skilled...but i love them. haha.

If they're not good, what do you enjoy about them? They must be doing something well or else you wouldn't like them.

Rarely do I enjoy things I know aren't good. Butl for some reason I enjoy that one Cage the Elephant song, No Rest for the Wicked, although I can't figure out anything about it that I like or respect.

for me it's a band like She Wants Revenge, they aren't incredibly creative and the guitar parts could be replicated by a 14 years old with little skill easily, but at times I enjoy their music so much, sometime I'm in the mood where I almost crave it. I know it's not amazing but I still enjoy it.

umm....i had the EXACT same argument for the last thread.

MOST BANDS CAN PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS WELL...so with that being said....if they CANT play their instruments well, that means they aren't good, and i cant acknolwedge they're good. So my answer is NO.

Now their are some bands that arrange music differently, and have songs that consist of different time signatures, melodies, etc. Any one of those bands can argue that their style of music is "Good"...and if they can play the guitar, drums, and bass well, then they are indeed "good".

If a band has a bad voice that counts as me saying NO. Voice/Singer is a member of a band.

Why are people voting yes? thats ridiculous

There are plenty of bands that have 1 or 2 songs I really like, but I recognize that overall they aren't a good band. lol

If they're catchy, sure. I won't necessarily enjoy the band, but I'll enjoy said catchy song.

... Uh... No. If a band has absolutely no talent, or is not "good," then I'm not going to listen to them. I can't think of a single band or artist that I listen to that I can't find something they're "good" at. For example, I listen some artists that aren't good vocalists, but write great lyrics; they're "good" at writing lyrics.

yes. i was just talking with my friend about this yesterday.

i listen to a wide range of music, and for different reasons. i think i listen to a lot of bands that are really talented, but i also think some of my favorites aren't "good". but i don't think you always need to listen to music that is mindblowingly good and unique. sometimes, you just want to listen to something catchy, you know. so i can definitely enjoy bands that aren't "good". but i certainly know which bands are talented and which aren't.

Hell yeah, I really like a number of bands I know that aren't what you would call spectacular (like, say, The Higher, for one example) that I can still highly enjoy, even though I'm aware that the band might be lacking lyrically, vocally, productionally (not a real word, idgaf), whatever.

his lyrics were good, he was a great performer, a great rhythm guitar player.

I say yes, all it takes for me to like a band is for them to strike an emotional chord inside me. Pop music and hip-hop generally aren't good, but they are the most popular genres out there. Most mainstream music is that way. People still like it.

Conversely, I don't like all bands that I know are "good," like Radiohead and Brand New, simply because I don't feel an emotional connection with them. I can't relate to the music. I nonetheless have no less respect for them.

There are plenty of bands that aren't composed of good musicians who still make some catchy songs.

This is hard to answer, simply because I would argue that, not only must the "goodness" of a particular band/artist be determined by the culmination of several different elements, but that "goodness" is a matter of degree. To say that a particular band has to either be considered good or not good seems strange, at the very least.

I'm going to say it again; if you like them then, at least to you, there is something good about them.

i voted no because i can't get into the pop-punk scene that a lot of people like. but, what i find good and what other people find good are two different things. but i personally can only dig music i find good by my standards.

the question is "can you still enjoy a band if you know they aren't objectively good."
perhaps I should have added that in the question, but I still stated it in the first post.

Having something good about you, as a band, doesn't make you good.

Why do we have to judge what we like based on how musically proficient it is? If I like it I'm gonna listen to it.

Definitely. For example, The Summer Set makes music with no substance, yet I jam out to them every day.
If I like the sound, I'll listen. Plain and simple.
