i have recently been arguing with my friends about a particularly untouched subject. Sarcasm. now every body is a little sarcastic, but ive been told that i am way too sarcastic and i never say anything serious. ive been told that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but the highest form of intelligence. now the question is...does anyone really like the funny guy (or girl)?

the funny guy/girl can be fun at times but also a real pain in the ass in my experience. Its just not needed at certain times. If its hard to get a conversation out of someone because of sarcasm i would say they need to be alittle less sarcastic.

Sarcasm is good when it's mutually understood, otherwise you're screwed.

agreed. that and then you make the other person feel like crap when they take what you said seriously.

sometimes i say serious things that people think are sarcastic because of i'm rather sarcastic. in fact, i have one friend who seems to think everything i say to him via MSN is sarcastic, and he gets pissed off. which is fun.

yeah...I've been trying to tone down my sarcasm a bit, because it was to the point I couldn't compliment someone without them thinking I was mocking them

i'm a huge fan, personally. i can also really appreciate it if someone else makes a good sarcastic remark. i often wonder if people get annoyed with you as a person over time, though, if you use it consistently.

There is no such thing as being too sarcastic. Fun fact: sarcasm was invented in early March, 2006.

Agreed. You just need better friends if they don't like it. Fortunately all my friends are as bad as me and we hate everyone. It's great. haha

that happens to me all the time

and then I said I was sorry and my friend threw a big fit 'cause she thought I was being sarcastic again when I wasn't.

I'm definitely the sarcastic one of the group, though.

Exactly. Of course that might be why I don't have alot of friends.

If people around you fail to pick up on your sarcasm, you need to take a step back and re-evaluate your delivery. Or start hanging out with brighter people.

i think there is a time for goofing around and a time for seriousness. during serious conversations avoid sarcasm because it is annoying
