They played at the North Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA, last night. If anybody knows anything about this place, it's that it's super small, it's about the size of a basement. So we were all super cramped but everything was super personal.
Lurene Drive opened and played four of five songs. They were good, but I didn't know any of the lyrics so it was hard for me to get into them. After their set, the lead singer walked out into the crowd and when I told him he played well, he pushed me out of the way. Asshole.
My American Heart was next. I just didn't feel them. We saw the drummer and the lead singer later in the parking lot and they were holding hands, and then they gave each other a peck on the lips. Whatever.
The Audition then came on. I had high expectations for them, and I was hoping they could meet them. I listen to a few songs from "Controversy Loves Company" at least once a day. So they got on, and I have never been so enthralled by a bands performance. Every song was packed with energy, and the crowd was so into them. They then left the stage and hung out with everybody. While I walked by, the lead singer started talking to me. Super nice guys, we saw the drummer and the guitarist in the parking lot and they were talking to my friends about AVA. I'm definitely seeing them again when they come back in August.
Emanuel closed the night and they were good, but I was comparing them to The Audition, and I feel they didn't get a fair listen.
North Star Bar= Awesome, Night=Awesome. Go see The Audition.
