Haven't seen the pilot, just the commercials. All I know is that if this thing ruins my childhood I'm going to be very angry.

The pilot hasnt aired yet. You can find the first 9 minutes on youtube or Hulu.

Still skeptical, but maybe I'll come around. I never trust remakes at first, and this seems like it's pretty toned down compared to the oriinal. The trailers don't even mention people-eating. I mean I know that wasn't discovered right away but that'd be a great way to catch the younger viewers.
