It seems to me that an abundance of bands in hardcore/metal/posthardcore genres are beginning to use more and more synth/keyboard...etc. in their music, to me some bands pull it off as it fits their music, but too many bands attempt to cram it into their songs...does this bother you?

not if it's done well.

for example: dillinger escape plan - ire works.

edit: also, it's not really new, it's just becoming more popular.

yea good correction, thats what i meant..a lot of bands use it well, but idk it seems like its being abused.

what is your take on a band like: horse the band? Greta Knights? I see stars? Asking Alexandria?

not saying that synth can't be used in a driving way but in rock music, I like it in moderation or in the background rather than a driving force.

What about Sky Eats Airplane? Their use of it is pretty adept, IMO.

I'm definitely not a big fan of synth keyboards. That being said, Thursday does it pretty well.

Dimitri Martin is the antithesis of cool, and that's why he's awesome...and hot.

It pretty much is a requirement in metalcore these days... along with 4/4 off note breakdowns. So yeah, its mostly obnoxious because most of those bands don't know how to play a keyboard or synth.

HOWEVER, some bands have great key parts. It just depends.

I was just thinking about this today cause' I was listening to Attack! Attack! and yah' know I don't really know how to feel about it. It's okay in little bits and if it's done well.

They just use a Macbook, not an actual synth or keyboard

It seems like I see tons of bands using Alesis Microns lately. I'm getting really sick of it.

they didnt steal anything from i see stars. i see stars uses way more than they do and dont do as good of a job. i see stars is alot more poppy.

I know, but overall, they're just another band in the long history of bands getting fucked over by Victory.

I think my favourite example of the screamo/electro combination has to be Take To The Skies by Enter Shikari. That album was definitely 'ear opening' the first time I heard it. They do a really good job of making the two genres work.

Haha yeah right dude. I live like 5 miles from Troy and I've seen this band since before they were called We Came As Romans. As soon as I See Stars started developing the sound they had, WCAR switched from moaning and barking to playing synth driven post hardcore.

No way... metal with a keytar would be the shit.

only if the keytar was in the form of a battle axe and was used to kill pumas.

u havent searched hard enough then, it seems to me that the majority of bands ont he rise have a lot of synth/keyboards in their music....i think asking alexandria's new album is very good, and they use it..i see stars is wayyy too poppy, we came as romans new album is respectable..they dont abuse the synth...

and so have i... since when are they since driven? there sound is not defined with synth whatsoever... i see star relies on synth to make there sound. we came as romans uses more than since, they use orchestra elements instead of just regular synth. iss is pop and wcar has a way more progressed sound.

DevinRosni

Oh yeah? Then you'll remember when Larry and Mark did vocals, and just after I See Stars started using a synth to attempt to play "electronica" breakdowns (before they were playing synth pop), WCAR got a keyboard and started playing the same things. Besides their pseudo progressive orchestra sound is new to the Dreams EP. They picked up their new sound after Dave started doing vocals and they picked up Kyle from Standford Grace.
