IDK.. it looks pretty bad ass to me, but all it is is a MIM P-Bass with a different pickguard, maple fretboard, and 1/4 pups.

This will be good for kids just getting started. FOB has made such a big impact I bet a lot of younger kids maybe got inspired to play bass now sorta like what Mark and Tom did with Blink 182 and so many kids bought those signature series guitars.

Gibson is way over-priced and that Fender's a great guitar for the money (I own one)... try picking one up used on ebay.

So i've now heard that it's going to be a Squier instead of a Fender, and will be 250 - 300 bucks. First off, that is extremely overpriced for a fucking SQUIER. Second, I don't see why they would put Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders in a Squier. It makes no sense. That's like souping up a shitty ass car.

Squire's are actually pretty solid guitars now. Also, the Tom Delonge signature Strat was released in both a Fender and a Squire version; maybe this will be the same.

Its not worth paying extra for that. It sounds like a P-bass but has the action of a Jazz bass. Buy a regular P-bass and tinker with the action and I guarantee you it sounds as good if not better than the Hoppus. Plus the Hoppus bass is not durable at all and very prone to random shit falling apart on it. I guess the Mark Hoppus is good if you want to start out and spend extra money.

i spent 500 bucks on mine and it was well worth it. I wanted the jazz bass body b/c i like the neck better, but i still wanted the pbass sound so i was willing to dish out the extra hundred bucks, b/c thats what it wouldve cost for the seymour duncan pick ups anyway. I was tired of my p-bass and wanted something a little different so i got it and haven't regretted my decision. The only thing wrong with it is the paint chipped a little, but that doesnt bother me. But my mustang bass is what has my attention now, but i still like the hoppus sig a lot.

the blink 182 signature guitar and bass sounds like crap. I swear they have zero tone. You might as well save up for an American P-bass or Jazz bass. If you know what you are looking for you can find an awesome mexican bass that is just as good as an american but for a cheaper price. I would tell people to avoid pete wentz's siganature bass. I bet it will sound like crap and probably feel awkard. What does Pete Wentz know about basses anyways? let alone bass playing. I know I am an asshole.

Umm, the Blink 182 signatures sound great.
I have the Fender Tom Delonge Strat. It's the same build quality as the other Mexican Strats, but the Seymour Duncan Invader is a great pickup. It's awesome for high-gain applications like metal, or pop-punk.
I bet Pete Wentz knows a ton more than you do about bass gear...

06/20/06, 06:12 PM
Well obviously we probably have different taste in gear. I just remember the blink 182 guitars sounding like crap. When I use to play bass I would use a jazz bass and use a sans amp pedal and a ampeg svt pro-4 head through an ampeg 8x10 of course. But I don't play bass anymore because I play guitar. And well the tom delonge guitar isn't the guitar for me.

Looking back through all of FOB's materal, the only bass that stands out is the intro to the 2nd verse of Grenade Jumper, and of course Dance Dance. Nothing special, and Patrick probably wrote them anyway.

Honestly, I think i'm not quite sure. It can be anything really... here is what I think it is for
1. It is used to resonate the sound and have a warmer sound go through the pickup.
2. It is used to make the bass look like it has an optical pickup.
3. it is just a piece of jewelry for the bass, doesn't everyone want to be blinged out?
I'm not sure, but I took it off because I pick and it would constantly get in my way. I pick different places for different sounds and that eliminated the use of the back pickup.
EDIT: I just watched a few of his videos... It looks to my that is just where he rests his hand while slapping...

My guess was always something along the lines of the first one. I agree it would get in the way, it kind of eliminates a whole set of possibilities and that's pretty much where I play 90% of the time.

I am getting a PW sig bass for an extremely early birthday present. For me personally a) I'm a 6-string player, so four strings will feel like I'm not wearing any pants; b) 20 frets are going to feel more like a baritone guitar than a bass; c) only one volume knob? I don't get that at all; d) spoiled spoiled spoiled by active electronics; e) I'm used to *very* heavy instruments. (Wentz says in Bass Guitar he's a little guy and needs a light bass. He should try my Peavey Forum. Weighs in at 15 pounds. Oh, yeah, I forgot - I don't think he'd know what to do with five strings....LOL) First time I pick this thing up it'll probably get tossed over my shoulder, off my office window and into the Chicago river (where, accordingly to everything I'm reading, it belongs). I do believe I will save my pennies, nickels and dimes for that Peavey Cirrus fretless I've been drooling over since I got my fretted Cirrus last year. I'm in a new band doing some rather heavy stuff that alternates with, I dunno, Clapton-type stuff, to Paul Weller type stuff and can fit in well with all three. And I like having six knobs, dammit. It's my bass and I'm sticking to it.

Just out of curiosity, what is the pickup cover supposed to do for you? I've never been able to figure that out.
marcus miller says he keeps it on because when he's slapping that's how he knows where his hand is. he took the back one off to get tonal varuiation.

his bass is made by squier whose parent company is fender.
the bass runs around 250-300 bucks.
if you like him as a bassist i'd recommend it.
i would say save your money for the following reasons....
1. squires suck ballllssssss
2. you can buy a much nicer fender standard (mexican made) p-bass from like $350-$400 bucks (never pay attention to the guitar center price or your local music shop's price. buying an instrument is like buying a guitar, you can always talk them down or convince them that their competitor will give you a better deal).
3. after you buy said bass you can put a seymour-duncan 1/4 pound pickup in the bass for about $100 more.
4. you now have a professional quality bass for only $200 more.
the bottom line is squire makes shitty guitars/basses/amps/ect. the pickup in this bass is shit, and i'm guessing the workmanship is standard squire quality. but hey, if you're just starting out and pete wentz is you idol go for it.
