Here's what decided the game tonight:

Carolina's D had 400 something playoff games combined.

Buffalo's D had 67.

Edmonton can't be beat right now. They're too solid of a team to tople right now. Edmonton in 5 games.

Haha Carolina's Philly connections is enough for me to despise this team, but that's just where it begins. My hate list:

1. Philly
2. Toronto
3. Carolina

here's an example of a classy fan:

As a Hurricanes fan (clearly), I wanted to say thank you to Buffalo, its players, and fans, for a magnificent series...the most gut-wrenching, emotionally-tiring sequence of games I have ever seen. It's just terrible that you lost so many great players and the series as a result had a surreal feeling to it. I dare say you would have won if you had just one or two of them back. As it is, I can't say enough about how big your AHL players were in the last 3 games and how damn scary such a depleted team still was.

A few observations:

If Afinogenov could finish, this would have been a different series entirely. He's such a talent, but he dekes himself out half the time.

The officiating was horrible overall, and calls both ways made little or no sense. Tonight, I don't mind saying, the call that led to the game-winning goal was sketchy (it looked like Carolina deflected the puck out of play).

Nevertheless, on Brind'Amour's goal a Buffalo player dove FACE-FIRST to try to block it. I remember thinking "my God, I wish Carolina had one player with that amount of commitment!"

So, congratulations on a great season and an unbelievable playoffs. I can truly say we beat the best team in the East in order to get to the Finals. Thank you for being such a great team and such a classy bunch of fans.

Yea, that is classy. The Buffalo players are unbelievable with their commitment. Did you see Soupy in the net, take one off the helmet to keep the puck out? Other teams block shots, but the Sabres throw their body at everything. I've never seen someone dive facefirst at the puck so much like Grier does.

yeah, i love to see them diving in front of pucks like that. i just hate when it backfires, and pucks end up deflecting into the back of the net, which seemed to happen way too often in these playoffs.

fuck carolina, go edmonton. i wanna see former devil jason smith touch the cup first

i hate carolina. buncha divin pansies. and laviolette is the biggest complainer in the game. they never lose games, its either the refs, the bounces, the equipmnent, etc.

seriously though, watch their games. justin williams, matt cullen, even rod brindamour. all of them dive.

and if it wasnt for that stupid puck over the boards penalty they still might be playing

that alleged high stick by briere on brind'amour in game 6 was one of the worst displays of diving i've ever seen. even worse than staal's dive earlier that game.

yes, i forgot mark recchi, doug weight (or dead weight/doug waste, take your pick) and glen wesley are so much better players than steve yzerman, brendan shanahan, and nick lidstrom. weak sauce. i don't care how bad the wings played in the 1st round, detroits veterans > carolina's veterans.

brind'amour is better than yzerman is now.

and well they're winning in the playoffs...not the 1st round knock outs again with the president trophy in hand.

and he's not even a 1/3rd of the leader. and that's not a knock on brind'amour. he's a former spartan so i love him, it's a testiment to steve yzerman.
and they're winning because their team has shown up. the wings didn't. plain and simple. i've addressed this.

if yzerman was a true leader he should have given his roster spot up this year and let a youngster play. Their age caught up to them against Edmonton.

Are you serious? Yzerman was one of our best players during the end of the year and definately during the playoffs. He looked a hell of a lot better than our young stars (Datsyuk), so your argument is null and void. If you ever tell anyone that Rod Brind'amour is a better hockey player than Steve Yzerman you'll get laughed at. It's not even a question.

The way that Yzerman played at the end of the year and into the playoffs, I would still take him over Brind'amour. And Rod obviously doesn't have shit on Stevey during their primes.

even if you want to compare them now i'll definitely give them that brindy is a much better faceoff guy. but he's still not a 1/3rd of the leader. you can find guys that are great faceoff men (yannick perrault, todd marchant) but you can't find guys that are the leaders and upright professionals of stevie Y.

if yzerman was a true leader he should have given his roster spot up this year and let a youngster play. Their age caught up to them against Edmonton.
and who was he going to give his spot up for? Jiri Hudler? Don McLean? who?
what caught up with them wasn't their age, it was their lack of a big, physical defenseman as edmonton's forwards pushed them around in front of their own net. it wasn't there age.
