According to Wikipedia.com (www.wikipedia.com), The hosting for The Pirate Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pirate_Bay), the world's largest BitTorrent tracker, was raided by the Swedish police on accusations of copyright infringement.

Yeah. This happened the other day. Sucked, too. That was a good BT tracker.
Strangely enough, though, the guys behind The Pirate Bay were forming a political party in Sweden, based on the reform of Swedish copyright law. It was actually starting to build up a little steam before they shut The Pirate Bay down.
Needless to say, they're going to fight it. It's gonna be really interesting to see how this all develops.

from what i've read, they don't really have to do much fighting. they've proved over and over that what they do isn't illegal in sweden, and this was just a push from the mpaa (and eventually the us government) to get it shut down, legal or not. i believe as well that they will be suing for illegal seizure or something to that effect. all reports say they will be back up within a few days.
well damn. i was there often

Yeah, apparently there was a hacker attack late Thursday that shut down the Swedish Police website [CNN] (http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/internet/06/02/sweden.hacker.ap/index.html). It could be in retaliation from shutting down The Pirate Bay.
The police Web site was closed late Thursday after a so-called denial of service attack, in which hackers overload a single network by directing massive traffic to the site, police spokesman Lars Lindahl said. He did not rule out that the attack was linked to the police crackdown on The Pirate Bay on Wednesday.
Also, the Pirate Bay's website said that the site should be back online within a day or two.

this happened twice before I believe... maybe not on copyright enfrigement but this is def not their first shut down... usually it took a week and a half to get back on the site

I can't wait until Sweden markets those mp3 players with Bluetooth file-sharing in the US. It will end the RIAA. It will be hilarious.
