i imagine it will be something similar to this:

all the world is mad
the weight
hold fast hope
artist in the ambulance
silhouette
of dust & nations
a song for milly michaelson
doublespeak
the arsonist
like moths to flame
in exile
at the last
the melting point of wax
daedalus
helter skelter
the earth will shake
e: beggars

this was what they played on the first off date of their tour with brand new.

I'm worried about the Pittsburgh date. Every headlining tour Thrice goes on, they play FOREVER. But the venue has a really really strict curfew for bands, because it's also a dance club. So fuck.

Why does that sound like you're complaining they're playing a long set? There's only 3 bands on this tour so if they start at 7 and end at 11 that will leave room for at least 15 songs. Not too bad.

My bad, it shouldn't, I love that about them. Last time I saw them they played 25 songs. And there'll be a local opener.

I'm pumped for the Pittsburgh show, but hopefully we get just a few more Artist (and maybe Illusion) songs than the Brand New shows have been getting. While I'm excited to hear "Beggars," "In Exile," and the reworked "Milly" live, a set without "Artist" and "Stare at the Sun" will feel somewhat empty.

25 songs? You are so lucky and god Thrice must be exhasted after that set. That's like around 2 albums worth of stuff rights? Anyways since you're going on the first day of the tour, don't forget to post the setlist afterward :-)

They played 20-25 every single night on their last headliner with Circa Survive. And I'll have a setlist that night, and hopefully a review Monday morning.

lol it's alright, you mentioned Thrice's long sets, bands like Pink Floyd back in the day played for hours, even The Cure, when I saw them last year, played for 3 and a half hours

I only get to see Thrice once this year and it's with Brand New :(

They need to headline something around NYC/NJ ASAP.

They have not headlined this area since Vhiessu!

he's complaining about diesel probably cutting the set short, which definitely happens. it might be more like 10pm actually. i think diesel has the best sound in pittsburgh, though, so whatever we get will be worth it.

Tonight was probably one of the best Thrice performances I have ever seen. The added screaming at the end of Beggars was just fucking brilliant and blew me entirely away. It kept getting more and more intense. I it would've been cool if they had thrown in one Illusion of Safety song or something like Image of the Invisible, but it was awesome, regardless, and I wouldn't have asked for really anything different.

The Dear Hunter was wonderful, as always and Polar Bear Club was good, but I'm not a huge fan of the singer's voice. The newer songs sounded good live, however.

I won the meet and greet contest and found out from Dustin that he has a lot of solo material done, but wants to put it out when he can tour it. Apparently he can't do that because he's working "some other special project". I tried to ween it out of him, whether it was supergroup with him Lacey, Hull, etc, to no avail. However, it DID seem like it was a collaboration of some sort, because he said he wouldn't necessarily need to "tour" the new project. Regardless, I'm excited.

probably my least favorite setlist i've seen them play tonight, but they did a daytrotter session earlier that day, which will surely be awesome. And even so, it was a pretty good set. Saw a couple of the Hey Mercedes guys who are working for Thrice so that was cool. I was really impressed with the venue. Sounded great, not what I was expecting at all, however the guys yelling "play in nebraska!" and for T&C/Deadbolt got really old after a while. Would go back again.

Agreed....but I've had that kind of thing be a LOT worse at other Thrice shows.
They were fricking awesome tonight though, and for the daytrotter sessions they did a Tom Waits cover and about 4 songs from Beggars. I'm fucking pumped to hear 'em.

Pretty sure it was 1878 off of The Lake South, The River North (tell me if I'm wrong?). It features Nigro from ATAL on the cd version, which is pretty cool. I was kind of sad their set got cut a little short. They were so good (as always)

Yup I agree. Red Sky is such a brilliant song and I have yet to hear them play it live. I was praying for Music Box as well but now that Teppei's not there, there's a slim chance it will happen. I wonder who's filling in for him.

Not a big fan of Thrice, but Nate Patterson and Casey Crescenzo contributed lead guitar for a couple Thrice songs (which they apparently learned in a day and a half). The doors opened at about 6:00 PM I got to the show early with some friends around 5:15 and was probably about 30 people back from where the line started.

As Polar Bear started the venue probably had about 75 people and I like the energy Polar Bear Club has on stage they seem like cool guys, really was looking forward to hearing "Chase Hamburg" song but they got around to playing it. They probably played close to 5-7 songs which most crowd didn't really get into until the last 2 songs or so.

Next was The Dear Hunter I saw these guys just a couple months earlier on the Mewithoutyou tour so I already knew I was about to see another excellent showing from these guys. Not alot of people knew who they were once the set started, but by the 2nd song the crowd was just going nuts for these guys. I was probably one of the only people in the crowd who knew the words to the songs, but as the songs went on people were starting to sing along. By the time they finished there set the crowd was just insane with how much they loved these guys. Since I was so close to everyone in the crowd I saw most people took out there phones and would text things to there friends saying things like "check out The Dear Hunter they are amazing"

I met The Dear Hunter once the show was over and got them to sign my Album, really loved how they hang out by the merch table and signed anything the fans asked them to, they were just as cool as when I met them a couple months earlier.

Once The Dear Hunter ended and Thrice was next the crowd came in and probably close to 300-400 people at the venue which was just insane! it was packed to the wall full of people. I never saw Thrice live until now so I was just excited with the rest of the crowd it felt like the techs took forever setting up all Thrice's equipment for how excited everyone was. Thrice came out and crowd was just nuts! people were jumping and screaming and Dustin started by telling everyone Teppei had a family emergency so they were going to have some friends taking over some parts and had to rework some songs. They started with Of Dust And Nations and Jesus once it got right into the "rock out" part the crowd moshing started, I was standing in the middle of the stage and by the end of the first song I was pushed almost all the way over to the left side of the crowd. As each hard song kept going the crowd moshing only got more intense with people just pushing everyone, but honestly it was so much fun! even though I don't care much about Moshing just being in a crowd with people who all all knew Thrice songs and would sing along was just something to feel quite good about. They played 15 songs, they worked some in a cool way, A Song For Milly Michaelson had a more "Rock" feel to it which was just something so awesome to hear considering how we all know it on the Earth Disc. Once Dustin started playing "Stare and the Sun" and "Come All you Weary" by himself the crowd was just loving it! Probably one of the greatest sets done by one person I've seen. Casey (Singer for The Dear Hunter) came out to close the last 5 songs and the crowd now knew just how great he was after seeing the Dear Hunter set earlier so you can just imagine how awesome it felt! Overall it was such a fantastic concert! Thrice songs sound so good live! they honestly sounded so spot on with all the records and didn't sound like one of those bands that has a good record but sounds crappy live. It sucked that Teppie wasn't there, but in the end seeing Casey and seeing the rest of guest spots for songs was something I know I won't get to see again so by all means probably my favorite concert of 2009!

Also Dustin mentioned before they started playing "In Exile" that they just filmed a video for it and it should be out in the next couple of days!

Your review of the show got me so excited for my show next week. I'm so glad people are starting to appreciate The Dear Hunter now.

No Encore, Dustin made sure to tell us before they started The Earth Will Shake, that there won't be one....in a nice way.

Yeah The Dear Hunter is such an amazing band! if you haven't got a chance to meet them yet they hang out by the merch booth.

You mean after their set or after the show? Because I'm not likely to give up my spot to see Thrice so that I can meet the band (no matter how nice they are)

After the show, they were also at the merch table before the show as well.

What time should i get there if i want barricade?

If you're going to the hob show on the 25 they have a weird thing where if you buy something from the hob or eat there before the show you can go to another line that goes in first. Haven't been to the hob in a while but all the other shows I've been to they've done that. people start to line up around 4 - 5 ish for the normal line.

You have to buy an entree. Runs on average around $15-17.

I would've been nice if they still let Casey contribute, even if it's only 1 song. So stoked that they added Hold Fast Hope and At The Last but on the other hand, I want Come All You Weary tooo

Great show - although I did notice that the older songs didn't sound as good as they usually sound for thrice. I think it's because the equipment they brought for this tour is more suited for the beggars songs, and not as much for the distorted guitars of their older material. The clean guitars sounded great, as did the bluesy distortion for beggars songs, but for the older material the guitar tones were a little off.

The Beggars songs didn't translate well live, in my opinion. Still enjoyed the show but the Vheissu/Fire songs were definitely the highlight.

this is unfortunate to hear, sounds like they're having the same issue incubus has with SCIENCE material

Alot of sound problems can sometimes be to blame on the venue itself as well, I've seen alot of bands at different venues with same set up but they just don't always sound as good as they do in the other venue.

Going tonight, anybody have an extra ticket? I don't have one, and it's sold out, so if I can't get one I'll probably be just roaming around Downtown Disney.

The Avalon is easily the best venue in Los Angeles, sound wise.

Almost the same set as Monday, tonight. With Come All You Weary added. But no Like Moths to Flame.
Crowd was pretty good, except when I was getting violated by Polar Bear Club fans. But overall a great show. What I hate about HOB is that even though I got there 4 and half hours before the show started, I still didn't get the barricade. And finally met Casey. Really great guy.

Awesome setlist tonight. I didn't get to meet Casey though. Boo. There might have been something wrong with the sound system tonight. I was in the back and could barely hear when Dustin talk. Either that or I'm getting deaf.
Also don't quote me on this or anything but I overheard a Dear Hunter's band member telling somebody that they're releasing an EP around Christmas.

Hey, guys. I went to the show tonight (25th) with no ticket and no intention of getting in. Bought two tickets for $100, sold one for $60. Sold mine for $100, and then ran into Dustin's wife and she gave me two signed tickets for free. I didn't even ask her. I had a pretty good night.

Thrice's hometown is Irvine which is just 20 minutes from Anaheim so it kinda make it more convenient for him to show up. Now you know :-)
