The staff recommendations for the week can be found below (Click "Read More" to view all of them)

Frank- I was told to recommend Blackheart Procession (http://www.blackheartprocession.com/), so I am.
Ryan- Permanent Me (http://www.myspace.com/permanentme), The City Drive (http://www.myspace.com/thecitydrive), and Edison Glass (http://www.myspace.com/edisonglass).
Drew - The Sleeping (http://www.thesleeping.com).
Paul - I recommend n0 things (http://www.myspace.com/nothingsnyc) (featuring two guys formerly in Liars, it's where all the rhythm went) and not getting fucked over by a girl.
Brandon H. - It definently has been far too long since I have been able to this. I have been listening to alot of Covette (http://www.myspace.com/covette) and Regina Spektor (http://www.reginaspektor.com).
Scott - Thom Yorke, Ignite (http://www.purevolume.com/ignite), Hot Water Music (http://www.purevolume.com/hotwatermusic), and Dogwood (http://dogwood.ws).
Tony - I recommend Blackpool Lights (http://www.myspace.com/blackpoollights), Pony Up (http://www.myspace.com/iheartponyup), and seeing Andrew McMahon (http://www.myspace.com/jacksmannequin) play "Punk Rock Princess" alone on piano in front of 2,000 mesmerized people.
Darren - It's a beautiful summer day, so I'm listening to some classic Five Iron Frenzy (http://www.fiveironfrenzy.com/).

I COMPLETELY recommend The Sleeping!
I saw them last night for the first time in over a year and a half and I forgot how amazing they were.
(I saw them on The Taking Back Sunday/Fall Out Boy-before they were big/Matchbook Romance tour in October 2004).

I recommend Saves the Day Sound the Alarm because i'm in love with it and it seems like quite a few people aren't feelin' it:
Here are the Soundscan results for this past week (and total sold).
Saves the Day - Sound the Alarm: 1,633 (39,414)
Oh well to each is own. :shrugs: i guess....

&

NoFX Wolves In Wolves' Clothing

It's like seeing a car crash from inside the car
The driver's got his head craned back he's telling you a joke
You see the bus on collision course
You point your arm and turn your head and wait for the impact
This is the feeling we learn to live with in North America
The morning headlines always accompanied with sweat and nausea
Every week another puzzle piece gets permanently glued into place

We see the iceberg from 15 miles away
The captain orders the ship to "stay the course"
"Full speed ahead" shouts the accurst
The next thing we heard was, "rich women and children first"
The ship is listing, the captain's placing blame on the iceberg
"That berg attacked us, I am declaring war on the Arctic"
Who could ever have predicted the greatest ship could so easily sink (duh)

awesome......

InaGreendase
06/04/06, 08:11 AM
Everyone listen to Capital (http://www.myspace.com/capitallihc) for incredible melodic punk rock, go bother someone to send you the new Sinking Ships (http://myspace.com/sinkingships) (but not me), and then drink about 14 liquid pounds of the Flavor Aid because even the first mewithoutYou (http://www.mewithoutyou.com/) album is pretty awesome.

i also recommend not being screwed by your local record store who inexplicably don't have "in with the out crowd" while all other stores of the same chain in the region apparently do.

Thank them for saving you 13 dollars.

Also, many local record stores just don't bother with major labels. While I usually think that's kinda silly, it's totally appropriate in this case.

stfu, they're better than cute is what we aim for.

Regurgitating my own bile and then ingesting it is better than Cute Is What We Aim For.

beirut - jeremy barnes (neutral milk hotel drummer) plays on it. zach condon is nineteen and amazing.
robert nanna's threadless jingles - go to www.threadless.com, click on a shirt design, and listen to a jingle that bob nanna (braid, hey mercedes, the city on film) wrote about it. i fucking love them.
smog - listen to "a hit." it has some of the best lyrics i have ever heard.
the mountain goats - to everyone graduating this year, listen to "this year."
wilco - i would kill to write a song like "bob dylan's 49th beard."

These are my first recs so be gentle and check them all out, because they all deserve it...

Weezer - I cannot stress enough how much I love this band. They don't seem to get that much love on this site, and they should. Rivers Cuomo is one of the most honest and cleverest lyricists around and I can relate to him and his writing so much. It's Summer; pull out Blue and Green and rock out like a geek.

Jawbreaker - Blake Schwarzenbach can do no wrong. He is, for my money, the best lyricist in teh world. This band made the kind of "emo" tinged punk rock that has you singing along, only to floor you with the most ingenious line and your jaw just hangs in the air. Everything they put out is fantastic. If you have anything buy them, whip it out. If not, I urge you to buy something.

Death Cab For Cutie - I don't really need to explain them to anyone. Just to say that this band is so talented and special. That Ben Gibbard has the most beautiful voice. That you need them in your life.

Duke Special - This is a local musician who has just signed with V2 records (same label as Bloc Party) and he's becoming very big. He's a solo musician and you HAVE to check him out. He plays this old-fashioned kind of antique-indie fusion. It's so difficult to describe. I saw him last week in Belfast and he blew the house down. Often using nothing more than a piano, some strings and a wisk and cheese gratter (actually) he creates the most beautiful heartbreaking music. He's special.. duh. Check him out at www.myspace.com/dukespecial (http://www.myspace.com/dukespecial)

Well, that's it. I hope there's at least something there that interests you. I'd also like to give a big shout out to the new Snow Patrol, because they've grown on this record, and it's really stunning stuff. Have a great Sunday guys and gals!

- Rick

I'm too lazy for full descriptions this morning. Sorry. All quality recommendations, though.

Patrick Wolf (http://www.absolutepunk.net/myspace.com/officialpatrickwolf) "Wind in the Wires" - it's been dubbed by some what Conor Oberst tried to do with Digital Ash; new release expected this summer

Amy Millan (http://myspace.com/amymillan) "Honey From The Tombs" - just released, a bluegrass-inspired affair from the female vocalist of Stars

The Light Footwork (http://www.absolutepunk.net/myspace.com/thelightfootwork) "One State Two State - criminally unknown indie rock

Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire (http://www.bowloffire.com/albums.htm) "Oh! The Grandeur" - retro swing, anyone? distinct from his more recent solo stuff, but definitely worth the listen

Tony Pascarella
06/04/06, 09:02 AM
My last rec is absolutely near-orgasmic. The encore last night ruled so hard. Andrew played "Punk Rock Princess" alone on piano, and then full-band covers of Tom Petty's "American Girl" and the Everly Brothers' "Dream" with Tom from CIWWAF as guest drummer on the last one.

You listen to good music. I bought Josh Ritter because of you.Word. Thanks a lot. It feels great to have someone like your recommendation almost as much as you do. As you can see in my sig, Josh Ritter remains my favorite album of the year so far.

i like the amy milan rec i didnt realize she had a new band after stars, thanksThis album is essentially a solo album, although a few guest voices seem to appear throughout the album. It's not so much a clean pop record (ie. Stars) as it is more of a whiskey/broken heart bluegrass album. Good stuff, though.

They're fun to party with. Anywho, I recommend SMALLPAUL (http://www.myspace.com/smallpaul). Good hardcore.

I cannot stop listening to the Third Eye Blind self titled. Throwback, yes, but I picked this album up a long time ago and never really gave it the time of day until about two weeks ago. Such a great album.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the new AFI is terrible?

Your life is now better because you have begun to appreciate the greatness that is third eye blind.

and no, you aren't the only one who thinks the new afi is horrible. i hate it.

i saw you there tony!
i was scared to say hey lolCome up and say hi next time. I must have spent 25-30 minutes talking to someone else who stopped me and talked to me about AP.net...so it's cool. Generally I don't go to shows with a whole bunch of people because if I get tickets for free, I only get one extra and all my other friends are cheap-asses. So I'm always up for hanging out with whoever wants to come up and say hi since I'm there with 2 other people maximum.

Very nice choice on The Cadence. I remember when they had that number song and whatnot. They have really progressed and sound a good deal like their friends in The Receiving End of Sirens.
