View Full Version : Which athlete would have..

Which athlete would have had a really big career if it wouldn't have been for injuries slowing them down?

I watch alot of hockey so a couple that come to mind for me are

Pavel Bure, if he had 2 knees that worked he would still be putting up huge numbers today
Petr Forsberg - could have had a huge career had he stayed healthy
Mario lemieux - IMO if he stayed healthy and played as many games as gretzky he would be very close to his records

Those are all i can think of right now.. but what are some players in other sports that could have been a huge star for a long time if they stayed healthy

I would say Griffey is an obvious choice.

Terrell Davis, he tore up the league for about 4 years (superbowl mvp, like 2000yards rushing one year), but then one of his own fat ass linemn fell on his knee and it was never the same

This person already had a pretty big career and continues to be a pretty dominant player, albeit completely disregarded, but I'm going to go ahead and say Grant Hill.

Frank Thomas was never really hurt until he reached his late 30s....

Do you mean Ernie Davis?

bad choice

but when he was injured seasons before he was slugging 40+ homers

in 1998 he hit 29 then in 1999 he hit 15

2000-43
01-4

03-42
04/05-30 combined

so if he was never injured he might have hit 600

The correct answer to this question is Tony Conigliaro

Forsberg is playing in Sweden still; I know he's not the same player he once was but he is making a comeback and I think he had a very big career in the NHL. but I really just wanted to let you know he's still around in case you didn't : )

StuGrimson

Forsberg will be back in the NHL this year

As for hockey players who were superstars but pretty much had their careers ruines by the time they were 30 or younger. There are a lot of them

Bobby Orr
Cam Neely
Mike Bossy
Pat Lafontaine
Eric Lindros
Pavel Bure

If the steroids that helped Nomar Garciaparra put up 30+ homers while hitting well over .300 for the first several years of his career didn't eventually cause him to tear pretty much everything in legs he would have had a ridiculous career.

Also...
Tony Conigliaro
Ken Griffey Jr.
Grant Hill

deadstar

Well Lemieux when retired (the first time) he was the only player who averaged 2 points per game in a career. Obviously the game was changing so the end of his career would have been hard to predict (amazing he put up 76 points in 43 games after not playing 4 years but I digress). But he missed so many games in his prime years and obviously played in pain so often, its scary to think of what could have been had he not missed so many games in the early 90s.

And yea, I shouldnt say he would have definitively beaten the records, but he would have been pretty close.

Yeah, he's been shaky. He scored 2 TDs last sunday, but only had 50 yards or so on 20 touches. Hopefully he can bring it back. Sproles has been the getting the big runs lately.

Sproles has far less touches than him. He only had 5 against KC and the Raiders and had 40ish yards in those games. I know lt has had overall more yards, but sproles is making the bigger plays.
