It's a waste of space.

50% of threads are made about bands that are considered "emo" nowadays, and some elitist genre-obsessed people go and bitch and say "that's not emo, listen to (no-name band), (another no-name band), that's emo".

The other half are about people discussing what's emo or not. The truth is, people go to great lengths about shit that doesn't even matter anyway.

My point is, real emo (for lack of a better word), such as Rites of Spring, Circle Takes The Square, and all that obscure stuff could be classified as hardcore. The other emo that most people listen to, regardless of it really being emo or not, (Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, even Panic At The Disco), could go under pop, rock, or any of the other boards. This board is useless... everything discussed here fits into the other boards.

I mean, if there's an emo board, there can also be a grunge board, or brit-pop board, or more specific crap, but nobody wants that, right?

There is no space being taken up by this board, it's on the internet. But in all seriousness, your points arent very valid. Who decides what doesnt matter, this is a MUSIC website. There is a general forum that people post tons of stuff like "lets start a poop thread", or "whats your favorite hot pocket." While those threads might not mean much to me, they obviously mean something to the 300 people who always post on them. And while you say that these arguments dont matter, in the next paragraph, you do the same thing that you have condemned. You gave your own personal opinion on emo, even thought that "doesn't matter". There are plenty of bands that could go into more than one category, because they mix types of music or they flat out just change their sound. I wouldnt mind a brit-pop board or more specific boards, but its up to the admins of this website to choose what goes in these forumsand Im sure if people wanted them bad enough, we would get them.

Anyways, my point is, let us keep this board. Dont visit here if you don't like it. We are obviously getting "closer" to a true opinion on what emo is because I keep seeing the same band names listed (RoS, Circle takes the square, etc.). I think that is could be called progress, but we must all remember who won the race in the end, the tortoise or the hare?

The threadstarter is kind of right. There should be more threads about emo bands and less random crap threads like this one, but it's really hard when our threads on real emo bands get bumped off the front page by tons of threads talking about what emo is, bands that aren't emo, and lame jokes that aren't every funny. That's the exact reason I tried to start the thread where I argued with a bunch of people. I thought that people would condense their debates into that forum, but I was wrong.

Do I think that we should shut this down? No. that would be stupid. At the point where threadstarter tells us that emo is a stupid subgenre, he ignores the point that all genres are just subsets of the phrase music. If we can justify not having an emo forum because we could talk about true emo bands in hardcore and fake emo bands in pop punk, then we can justify getting rid of every subforum and just leaving absolutepunk with a general music section where everyone talks about every kind of band ever.

The reason we have an emo forum instead of grunge is because emo's still alive. We could have a grunge forum, but I doubt anyone would really talk in it. It'd be an essentially dead forum, thus Ap.net doesn't feel like wasting the bandwith . Even if this forum is completely stupid, people are still using it. So yeah, you're right, we could have forums on hyperspecific genres. We just don't because there's no market for them.

But, the reason this forum is stupid is not because of "elitist genre-obsessed people", but because of the majority of people's inability to have a decent conversation about anything without screwing it all up. People aren't listening to each other, and that's the huge problem. That's why we're a joke.

It's moreso the fault of everyone who ignored the fact that we had a specific thread to discuss what emo is in and elected to make their own posts about it, even if they were joking, than it is us that actually care about these sorts of things. If we had mods to clean this forum up, it'd be fine, but we don't.

Right again, sir. Everytime I get on this site there is a new thread about the same old thing on this forum. "what is emo", "why are people emo", "this is a joke". I have basically given the same answer on every one of these posts to maybe show people how pointless these threads are. I do think we are moving in the right direction though, and one day, this place will be glorious. You should be mod of this forum, dude.

it really makes me mad when people posts things saying that this band isnt emo and this other band is... i mean... there is no indie forum or a screamo forum or a pop punk forum... so emo is coming the closest to it.
